Rooting Galaxy S2 - Dummies Guide

The SHV-E110S is not my area of expertise I'm afraid. This was the best I could find on rooting it...

Since the phone is for the Korean market, you may have more luck on local websites.
 
Hi,

I followed the instructions and all went well. However after the device rebooted successfully no CWM and superuser were installed :(. I see the yellow rectangle which seems to indicate that the insecure kernel is running.
Any ideas ?
Should I just install them from google play ?

My son is fluent in Korean, so I'll have him dig in the Korean sites.
If I get something that works I'll share it.

Try flashing the CF-Root kernel .TAR file again via Odin. Use Root Checker to see if you are rooted.

i am obviously missing something simple, so please forgive my stupidity!

I have been given the task of unlocking my moms phone from three.
I have tried to follow several different sites/forums but always come up against a problem (either links no longer work or never download etc) so far this is the best i have found - i have kies and odin BUT i cannot find which kernel i need to download - please help!

its currently showing - 2.6.35.7-i9100xwki8-cl616395 root@dell149 #2

Hello and welcome to Android Forums faic88! :)

Firstly, unlocking your phone from a carrier is different to rooting. You can contact Three and obtain an unlock code from them directly.

If you wish to root your phone then you will need to use one of the kernels mentioned in #1.5, depending on your firmware. Grab a coffee and carefully and thoroughly read through the rooting procedure as it is a step-by-step guide.
 
Found the link now! Could see on my phone but could not spot it on my pc! Right I shall now continue and hopefully manage it this time

2) Will it work with my 4.1.2 S2 GT-i9100M?
3) Is there a way of backing up the phone before the root in case something goes wrong?

Samsung Kies PC suite or Helium Backup.

Does anyone know where I could find a guide on rooting the latest Samsung ROM (XWMS2)?
I recently installed it and it's crap. I need to change to another ROM but I lost root...

Framaroot is working on I9100. All supported Devices are listed on the Website under Devices.

Another Way : Search for Philz Kernel. Pre-Rooted and Custom - Recovery included.

Thanks for your support! I know how to root my S2. The problem was rooting that specific kernel (MS2).
Anyhow, I finally managed to do it: had to find Phylz old CWM root, so for anyone having the same problem as I did, you have to check Phylz OLD archive, before changing to his new version of the rooting tool. After that everything went smooth!
You can find Phylz on XDA network.

There should be no problem rooting MS2 as that is Android 4.1.2, Jelly Bean, and #1.8 of the guide explains how to do that.

You appear to be on the very, very, old Android 2.3.6, Gingerbread, firmware released in Nov: and Dec: 2011 for Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia.

This is a custom ROM build, wanamLite.DXK3, by the look of it. :confused:

My suggestion is that you go to SamMobile and download the latest Android 4.1.2 firmware for your CSC code and location, enter, i9100DX in the Search box, and install it via Odin by carefully following the instructions and video in #1.7 of the http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-international/680070-jelly-bean-update-dummies-guide.html. This will give you the latest, and last, stock firmware for your phone.

You can then proceed to re-root your phone by using the Siyah kernel in #1.8 of post #1 of this thread.

Once you are on Android 4.1.2 and are rooted you can then flash the latest custom ROMs.

ok i have samsung sg 2 i1900m with 4.1.2. i have tryed to download the siyah v6beta5 but get data error on this site.I did find one on xda but when i extact with winrar on desktop its a zlmage. right click it and properties and its not a .tar?loaded up oden with no phone a did a preload to see but it wont see this zimage.

any help would be great
