Root Rooting GT-S5839i says E: cant mount /sdcard

Yep one sec i remember the older versions of SuperSU worked best on devices with Gingerbread. One sec let me look at my file server and i'll link you.

Actually here is a direct link. https://download.chainfire.eu/315/
Since it's not a touch recovery as far as i can remember. Using the volume keys select install zip from SD, then tap power.
Then a list will show, select the SuperSU zip using the volume keys and then press power.

Once you reboot if all is well you will see SuperSU in your apps. It may or may not ask to update.
If it opens without errors than you have won the battle.

Hmm odd my reply didn't show. No worries though.

Put the zip on your SD card then boot into Cwm. Using the volume keys select install zip from SD then tap power.
Then a list will show, scroll till you see the SuperSU zip using the volume keys. Once it's highlighted tap power again and it should ask if you're sure you want to install it. Choose yes then press power again.

Once it reboots you should see SuperSU in your apps. Open the app and if it has no errors then you win.

Odd a second ago it didn't show me as replying so now i have a double post. Mods feel free to delete the double post. i didn't realize the thread went into a second page... ;)

No worries, the double page threw me as well.

Ok so, I boot into Cwm > install zip from sd when I then tap power I'm just taken to the previous menu. Did you mean tap home? (I'll use > to indicate home key tap)

When I'm in Cwm > install zip from sd > options are:
- choose zip from sdcard
- apply /sdcard/update.zip
- toggle signature verification
- toggle script asserts

Where to go from here?

It appears home is selecting options so i would use it instead of power.
Then choose install zip from SD card.
Then a list should show, navigate to the SuperSU zip and use the home key to select it and then it may or may not ask if you want to install it. If it does and it's like i remember it will have a bunch of "no's" then a yes in the middle. Select yes and it should install.

Oh quick question when you select install zip from SD card is there a install from sideload option?

== choose zip from sdcard >
- Android/
- DCIM/
- LOST.DIR/
- bluetooth/
- download/
- CWM_5839i.zip
- UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.25.zip

== apply /sdcard/update.zip (like you said, lots of No's) >
- No
- No
...
- Yes - Install /sdcard/update
- No
- No
...

Perfect select the UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.25.zip then select yes.
Once it says install complete/successful, reboot and you should see the SuperSU app in your apps.

Hmm ok have you ran root checker app? Does Superuser show in your apps?
Apps 2 SD is usually done with an app and or a command to force apps to the SD.
Install an app like Titanium backup and if it asks for Superuser permissions press allow.

If it said complete then it should have worked.
Run it through again then reboot once it says complete and look for a Superuser app in your apps. If it shows we can go from there.

I extracted the root.zip from earlier and looked at it other then a few apps that aren't really needed. It's just a superuser zip.

I figured that's what Kingo ROOT was? It lists me as No ROOT.

Superuser doesn't show in my apps.

Haven't tried Apps 2 SD yet.

I'll run the update through again now.

Kingo root is just a root exploit/tool it may or may not read correctly. When you do it again. If superuser is not in your apps go to Google play and install SuperSU from there and once it's installed let me know what it says.

So SuperSU wasn't there the second time I updated from recovery mode. I downloaded SuperSU 2.52 from the phone and installed it successfully. When I run the app I get message:

"There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!"
Then I tap the 'OK' box (the only option) and the app quits.

Before I reformatted the SD card I copied all the contents onto a a file on my external drive for backup purposes before I did the full format using SDFormatter. I never moved the original files back after the format Could this cause an issue?

Maybe try dl'ing another SU App?
