Root Rooting Help for a new user.

How do I know if my phone is "rooted"? I'm new to the "smart phone" era....sadly....lol. I did a search for updates & it said that there weren't any needed at this time. I do know that I have the HTC Evo 4G 3.70.651.1 (FroYo I guess? but it doesn't say)....in the market, the app shows as compatible but it also has the + drop down that says it's not compatible....confused....

hi.. and welcome to the forum... always great to see a fellow texan.

dd you purchase this phone new?
if so.. then if you have to ask if it is rooted.. then 100% it is not!

you have to go through a process to ROOT your android phone. Only the Nexus phones have a simple one-command to root.

quite simply. Rooting the phone.. is like.. "cough" jailbreaking the phone. you can run different anything on the phone.. developers out there are making new ROMS (operating systems) that have different advantages like.. better battery life.. or a newer Android system.. and so forth.. free wifi tethering..

im rooted.. but never did anythign with it until recently.. i was just wifi tethering.. thats it.. stock rom.. just rooted.. then i just recently put the new Sense 3.0 on my phone.. which.. is not available for our phone.. yet.. but a developer was able to get it working on the EVO.. so i tried it..
