Root Rooting Help, rom questions

evo4g815

Newbie
I'm sorry for asking a question I'm sure has been answered over and over. I've read all the guides and I've gotten to a point where I'm now stuck.

I have the original Evo 4g. I've done the htc dev method succesfully. I created a recovery (I tried the android flasher method but it didn't take since i have S-on) so I went with the ADB method. That worked fine as well. I'm now confused on how to install the custom rom. I downloaded mikg-v3.11

I created a nandroid backup, but I'm now stuck. Do I extract the files from the .zip into the evo folder (simple drag and drop in?), or do I leave the zip file as is, then drag and drop it in? From that point on, where do I go? Do I have to wipe everything? I noticed in the guide it said optional, but everything else I've looked up said that wiping was essential. If I wipe, and something goes wrong, will I still be able to go back to previous factory settings and try again?

Again sorry for the questions, but with 48+ pages of info, I've run out of patience searching. Been working on this for about 2 hours now and I'd love to finally get this thing rooting and running a custom rom.

Thanks!

No worries friend!
Just do not extract anything from the rom .zip.
Just put it on your sd card.
You made a nandroid backup and that is good :)
Now, boot into recovery, wipe everything 3 times but..DO NOT WIPE THE ACTUAL SD CARD!!..I say that in caps because that is important as your rom you are about to flash is on the sd card.
When you are done wiping, find the "choose zip from sd card" and navigate to the rom, choose the rom and flash it. :)
If you are not clear on something else, just ask!! :D

Thanks so much for the quick and friendly response! You guys have a great forum here. It's nice to know you can ask a question without getting yelled at haha

I'm a bit confused when you say wipe everything 3 times? I didn't see that anywhere in the forums (i'm not doubting you I just must have missed that).

More importantly, sd card is where the nandroid is kept too, don't want a whoopsie now do we :p

Yeah, you wont see that....that's what I do personally and I have no issues....just dont wipe the sd card is all :)

Successfully running mik rom. I only downloaded and installed this software because it's the one listed in the 'how to'. Are there any roms that are recommended or is this one pretty good and stable?
