Root Rooting help

So I know that if i searched the forums enough i could have found an answer for this, but i wanted a personalized answer.

So I just recently rooted my phone using the instructions at

I did the HTCdev method, then I went through steps 1, 2, and 3, and flashed the rom recommended in the instructions.

The rom worked great, and the flashing process went fine, but i realized i could no longer receive mms messages, which after researching, i found out that i could only receive mms if i had a sense based rom.

So i searched for one, found DigitalKarma v8 Reincarnation, so i copied the zip to my sd card, and used rom manager to flash it, but it diddn't work. After it flashed the phone was stuck at the white boot screen that says htcEvo4g. So i recovered the past rom and it worked fine. Ive tryed flashing multiple roms now, with the same results.

So if anyone could tell me why none of the roms are working, that would be amazing, or if you have a way to receive mms of the Mikg rom, that would be even better.

You said you are using rom manager to flash roms?
Don't use rom manager...it is buggy and there are more problems associated with rom manager and flashing.:(
Use the recovery, AmonRA, to flash not only roms, but kernels etc also. And wipe properly. i.e. wipe all except the sd card 3 times. I repeat, do not wipe the sd card.. then flash the rom.
Make sure you make a nandroid backup first, then flash.
In the guide you used, there are instructions on how to flash also. More info in post 2 of that guide:)
Now, about mms. Are you using the stock mms app or a different app?
What errors are you getting? or are you not receiving them at all? Can you receive texts?
Were you able to receive mms before rooting/rom flash?

Edit: and where did you hear that mms works only on sense based roms? That is incorrect as I am on AOSP rom and receive mms just fine.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I use GoSms for texting, and i get text messages fine. I dont get any errors for mms, but people say they send me pictures, and i never receive them.

Gotcha, I also use GoSms for texts/mms and have no issues.
Did this mms thing happen after root/rom flash?
And are you back on a working rom?

The only time i dont receive mms is when i have a custom rom. Otherwise it works fine. I have researched this issue online a bit, and many people say that custom roms not based on sense for the evo 4g cant receive mms. so im planning on finding a custom sense based rom and see if that works. ill post it on here afterwards, so u can know. but thankyou for your help so far

I am also wondering, where do u get amonra?

Mikg is a sense based rom:)
Have you tried to update prl and profile?
Also try to wipe cache and dalvik cache via recovery, then reboot.
If you want to try to flash another sense rom, look here for working roms for our phones:

Just remember to use recovery to flash the roms k?:)

Thankyou so much for helping me, but may i ask what does updating your prl and profile mean?
In other words, what is a prl and profile

PRL--preferred roaming list...tells your phone what towers to connect to first.
Profile--kinda like a validation of your account that is tied to your phone.
Update your prl, then profile.
menu/settings/about phone/updates/....in there should be prl and profile

And hey, we are always here to help you!
I personally kinda like to hang out here as we have the same phone but others do also, so if you need anymore help just ask or start a new thread.

i just want to reiterate to NEVER USE ROM MANAGER. it is way too buggy. do everything manually in recovery. also in order for rom manager to work you needed to have clockwork mod recovery. it is the back end of rom manager and it is what actually does the flashing of roms for you. but because rom manager is buggy and clockwork mod does not wipe well, i never recommend them.

the guide you used, part of the steps was to install amon ra. i would really suggest you stick with it.
