Help Rooting in linux- i know, discussed somewhat

I recently put linux mint on my main PC.

Where would I find how to root using linux (I know there is)

I have successfully done it in windows on another ally, but wanted to try in linux just so I can learn some about linux.

I have sdk installed. where would I go from there? The ultimate plan is probably velocity 1.2, but maybe SD or some other ROM. Not sure yet. I would have to do a recovery as well, I have done getitnow's recovery ont he other ally- looks simple enough to do in linux as well since it is terminal related. (only have the 2.2 version, not 3.06- I suppose I could update the old phone as a practice too..)

Thanks for help :)

I know this is probably not what you are looking for, but I used gingerbreak apk which obviously does not matter what the OS is since it is run from the phone. If you want to do it the "real" way sorry I can't help, but if the ultimate goal is just to be able to root and get a custom rom in then I think it doesnt matter which way you do it since the custom rom will be rooted anyway.

EDIT: Sorry read your post again, ultimate goal is to learn linux. Disregard my post, but leaving it here since it may be useful for someone who has different goals :)

You cannot root using the 2.2.1 guide in linux (atleast the dowgrade to 2.1 part to get fastboot access) since it uses the LG tool which LG chose to make for windows only.
