Root Rooting/Kernel Newbie Question

700

Lurker
Here is the plan:
I am currently running ZVC
I want to change my kernel to ZVD then install the #2 custom rom.
At what point does the phone need to be rooted?

From what I read I gathered that in order to even install the kernel you'll need CWM. Can you install CWM unrooted? Do you need to factory reset beforehand?

Also how good of an idea is this? Is #2 any better than ZVC?

need root for all the above. Very few devices out that you can install CWM etc w/o root first. Couple of AIO avail to root and install CWM, and the Fact reset depends on the ROM and what the Dev recommends (normally not needed). ;)

That thread suggests the AIO (All In One) Root and recovery. ;) Thats just my personal preference tho. Some people root then use ROM Manager (which I hate) to flash the recovery.

But first before you even do that, you should go Here and download the LG update tool and update to ZVD. It will wipe literally everything so sync your contacts to Gmail first!

Hey so I installed the update; Thanks a lot! Now I don't even need to ZVD kernel. I am ready now to install the AIO recovery but I'm not sure how to do that. I installed the Revo AIO thing but I don't see any application that allows me to install anything
