Root Rooting Problem Galaxy Prevail 2.2.2

Hi, i wonder if you can help me. I tried teh 1 click root several times and its not working " operation not permitted". Then i came across the odin on youtube and i did that. Im not sure if rooted or not but since i was able to install shabbymod 0.9 i guess, it is rooted. After shabbymod was intalled, i tried the tintanium thing. But when i tried on 1 of the app, it says that my phones not rooted?!!!?? I dont know much, but all i really want is to be able to get rid of those pre-installed apps that comes with the samsung g prevail since i dont use them. Then i also have this a2sd app from the app market, and the only thing i can move to sd card are the games...?!
Please.... I dont know much, as in really nothing, and im trying to find a way to free more space from my prevail. Can you please be patient and help me? Anyone? Thanks.

hi, very new to rooting and such and i just wanted to ask.. If you do the odin way to root your prevail does it erase all the info on your phone? Such as misd, meid? In other words do i have to reactivate the phone if i use odin?

Thanks in advance for the reply.

I have searched high and low for a solution, and I hope someone can help here. I recently tried to use the one click root. It did not work. So i used the Odin download with root. Worked fine at first, now i get an error when i try to download from market. I like odin and want to keep it, so any suggestions would be helpful. The error states that the app could not be downloaded due to error. I was able to do it all in the beginning. I have not removed anything or deleted anything. Thanks in advance for your help.

So I just recently bought a Galaxy Prevail from boost running the Android 2.2.2 version. I've literally tried every possible way to root my phone. One click root wont work for me. I get to the step where I'm suppose to use the cmd prompt to "adb reboot" it wont recongize the command. Then i managed to get the .bat file to run and it went through

This is the point where my phone just won't reboot. I tried it at my friends house and managed to get to point where is says something along the lines of "Your phone should be rooted" blah blah but there wasn't a superuser app in my phone. I'm running windows 7 64 bit and I did change the compatibility to service pack 3. The SD card is also unmounted. If someone can please help it would be highly appreciated. I've literally spent about 12 hours trying everything.

Root fails for android o/s 2.2.2 , kernel 2.6.32.9
hardware versionm820.07
I traced the issue to the KillingMeSoftly script that gets loaded to the phone, it results with "I think I failed". I tried running the commands one by one that follow that line (in the PrevailToExistence.bat) and the mount fails where it tries to remount device /dev/stll12 over /system in write mode. I looked at the permission of /dev/stll12 and the shell user does not have access to the device, so the mount fails. All subsequent copies of programs like su fail because of the failure to remount /system with write. I also noticed that sometimes the commands hang due to some timeout so, successive reboots of the phone are required to get around the timeout. I suggest user list kernel, hardware levels when stating what works and doesn't.

Please help. I can not get my Prevail to root either.

It just keeps saying that each file is not recognized as an internal or external command.

But then at the end it says "you should have root"

But nothing happens. Titanium still says that I do not have root.
Phone is in debugging mode, SD card is unmounted and removed.

Maybe I am missing something here. Can anyone help please? I really really need to tether my Kindle Fire. I will donate to anyone who can help me achieve success with this.

Check the ODIN thread (sticky at the top of all things root page) and root that way, pick your flavor and download it to your phone. once it is up and running like a charm, go to the first post and click on Hroark13's "donate" button.

enjoy :)

The easiest thing I would suggest to do is update your phone to 2.3.5 through Boost normally before trying to root or do anything to your phone. You should then be able to do the Shabby one click root. After you have it rooted I would install CWM do a backup then choose a rom of your choosing be it Shabby 0.9 or CTMod or whatever hits your fancy. I think most of the current ones remove most or all of the bloatware that is on the default phone. If you just root and then use Titanium Backup or similar program and start removing stuff like Hookt, Loopt etc. you will end up with a non functioning phone because removing certain programs like the above mentioned also removes other essential things for the normal function of the phone. All of the mods like Shabby or CTMod have patched in the required functions while removing the bloat safely.

Shabby 0.9 is not a 2.3.5 mod, it's only for 2.2.2

None of the users trying to root even mention trying to install Shabby 0.9(other users and ones that have rooted mention installing it). So if they are only trying to achieve root then it shouldn't matter what version they are running.....unless of course they specifically say they are trying to root with the intention of installing a specific mod.

I was only giving another option to achieve root since I did not see anyone declare they where trying to install something that required 2.2.2.

you actually suggested that they OTA update to 2.3.5 and then install shabbymod, which wont work. I was simply correcting that one small error

I can't get Oneclick to work because it cant copy any of the files into the file system.

What can be done about that?

Coping files to phone...
failed to copy 'su/system/xbin/su' : Read only file system
failed to copy 'superuser.apk to 'system/xbin/Superuser.apk' : Read only file system
failed to copy 'busybox to 'system/xbin/Superuser.apk' : Read only file system

it then can't do anything else because there are no files

ps is there a way to copy the text in the Oneclick window so I could post it?

May I recommend “odin” as it will backup/restore all your files just incase you do something nutty “as we all do lol”. It also roots your phone at the same time. Follow the link here http://androidforums.com/galaxy-prevail-all-things-root/375550-odin-return-phone-stock-factory-updated-11-09-a.html and click on the link under "DOWNLOAD EJ06 Gingerbread Rooted Image with CWM5 made by Chin Checka". Have fun!

Edit: corrected spelling oops :)

I'm new to the whole root thing and i've tried following the instructions but can't seem to get it to root...how do I find odin image and install it on my phone?
