Root Rooting Problem: Superwipe

Hey guys. I'm following the [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide for my Evo 4G and have been following the steps exactly. I didn't run into any problems until Step 3 of the HTCDev Method. I moved Superwipe into my sd card and am in Recovery Mode. The Superwipe folder is in there but after going through the various sub folders inside of it it reaches a dead end where there is nothing. It's probably something easy to figure out but I can't seem to do it. Any help would be very much appreciated.

I moved the Superwipe folder into the SD card like the guide said yet nothing.

it sounds like you extracted the file. leave it zipped up. only extract file when told to do so. for the most part most files that you flash in recovery will need to be zipped.

@cyclonus23 I was having the exact same problem and it was exactly what @ocnbrze said. The file was not a zip file but instead an extracted file from the original zip file I downloaded. Hope you get it up and running :)

Sounds like you unzipped the file. Keep the superwipe file zipped and choose "flash zip from sd card", find the superwipe.zip file and flash.

I was so damn frustrated I almost threw my phone out the window. Nothing a little wine couldn't solve.

Thank you guys so much.

Success! Thanks, guys. It all went smoothly. But......now what? Do I have S-off now? Where do I get all the overclocking apps? Do I need to delete anything else? I've been reading up on these things for hours, I swear. Sorry about being such a noob =/

hey we are all noobs once, so please do not be sorry. main thing is that you are in the right place to get help and info.

if you only did the HTCdev method then, no you do not have s-off. you will have s-on still. there are other methods out there that will get you s-off if you like.

did you flash the su file? you will need that if you want to use rooted apps. you can also try and flash a custom rom as well. i would suggest MikG v3.11 [3/9/2012]

for overclocking your phone you will need two things: a custom kernel and an app called setcpu (that is the one i use, but there are others like rom toolbox)

I did flash the MikG v3.11 [3/9/2012]. I made another nandroid backup as you suggested on another thread. Is it necessary for me to have S-off? And where can I get these custom kernels?
Thank you so much for your help. Thank all of you actually.

no worries to get most roms and kernels, i would go here:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/284413-roms-kernels-download-page.html

or directly from EVO 4G Android Development - xda-developers

and no it is not necessary to have s-off. you can almost do everything that a fully rooted phone with s-off.

Awesome. Thank you SO much, ocnbrze. Your help is much appreciated. Hopefully I won't be bothering you guys much more

dude bother us much as you want. we are here to help if we can. let us know what your setup is like what rom and kernel you are on and how you like it.

also i would recommend that you read these guides:

edit: did i just typed "dude"? who says that any more?:o

Been reading non stop and so much to take in 8-/

Being that you obviously know your stuff, can you recommend a kernel and overclocking rom for my phone? I'm using the Evo 4G, did the HTCDev steps, and installed the Mik v3.11 Rom. I also download the CPU Tuner app as a SetCPU substitute.

For a sense kernel AnthraX is the king. You can find it here. It has beats audio code built it so it makes your music sound better.

As far as overclocking goes, you'll want setcpu. Theres a free version available or you can purchase it from the play store. a min of 245 and max of 1113 is stable for most people

So just to be clear: I install SetCpu. Then I make a nandroid back up. Then follow these steps to install AnthraX?
1) boot into recovery
2) back up your system (just in case)
3) wipe delvik and cache
4) flash the kernel
5) re-wipe delvik and cahce (dont ask why, but the posts here on XDA prove it fixed a lot of issues people where having)
6) reboot the phone
7) let it sit for 10 minutes
8) reboot the phone again (normal reboot)
9) enjoy

*for best results - flash at the same time you flash your rom: use my modifed superwipe tool (shooter/evo 3d only) - flash your rom (dont reboot), flash the kernel, wipe cache and delvik, reboot, let sit for 10 min, and reboot again.

Am I missing anything?

You're right on. But if you just made a nandroid backup, you don't need to make another one (step number 2 you have listed). Just make sure to always having a good backup stored somewhere safe in case you need to restore it. Preferably keep a copy on your home PC or a cloud drive (Dropbox or Google Drive) so that if your phone and PC crashed, you could still have access to it.

Sorry, another question. I installed both Anthrax and SetCpu without any problems. I set it to min 245 and max 1113. I'm probably being impatient but it's been a while now and my phone has shown no difference in speed and, in some cases with my SMS app Handcent, a considerable lag. Any ideas?
