rooting question galaxy s2

its possibly been asked a million times before. but i want to remove 3/4 default apps on my s2.

my question is. if i root my phone the idiot proof way of using the unlockroot .com software. delete the chosen apps using something like root explorer, and then use the unlockroot software to unroot it.

should that then give me an unrooted phone without the bloatware apps?

yes, you can root it, remove the apps and then unroot it. Although there's no harm in leaving it rooted. Rooting the phone doesnt harm your phone. That just unlocks the ability for YOU to harm it. But as long as you dont touch anything that you're not sure about, you should be fine.

You can also root it via SUPERONECLICK from xda. Thats pretty easy, too.

I would be wary of using any rooting kits that are not listed in your device's All Things Root subforum's sticky (I would link, but I don't know which of the many S2 variants you have) and/or not listed on XDA.

The website could be legit, but I trust the people who run the threads on Android Forums and the devs over at XDA more than some random guy that came up on a Google search.

If you can tell me which variant of S2 you have, I can link you to the All Things Root subforum of your device. Can you tell me which carrier you get service through?

Yes, but most members here would recommend rooting by using CF-Root as described in http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...t/482994-rooting-galaxy-s2-dummies-guide.html. It's a two-minute job and easily reversed simply by flashing the stock kernel back to the device.

will check it out.thanks.

can someone please send me a link with the kernel i need. i understand the whole root thing now. just need a back up kernel

Here's the cfroot kernel you need
CF-Root Download

I'm not really sure where you can get the stock kernel to unroot though. All the stock kernels were uploaded on megaupload or multiupload which are both down.

everyone is soo helpful on here. i have rooted and deleted all unwanted apps. now all i need is the kernel to unroot it back if i need it in the future. my phone details are in my 1st post. many thanks to everyone!

Quite why you've bothered to root your phone just to remove some bloatware, I don't know, seems a lot trouble and risk to me for not much benefit but anyway, I think! I've found your solution.

Check out this link http:// http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278

I think that's the information you need, though check it please and make sure you understand what to do with it before attempting to unroot your phone. Hope that helps....

I'm guessing that the reason that you're not getting a swift answer on this question is that normally you would be referred to this link:-

xda-developers - View Single Post - [ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KG, KH, KI, KJ, KK1/2/5, KL1/2/3, LA2,4 Download

to download the XWKI4 stock kernel, whose link is contained in that post.

However, MultiUpload is down and that standard link that we would all give out is not working.*** So I'm afraid it's a case of Googling it and searching.

EDIT

*** as you will find out if you click on DaffyDuck's post link. :D

im noot unrooting yet. ive only had my phone a week so just incase it needs to go back for any reason.

im downloading XWKI4

Firmware info
XEU (UK)
PDA:XWKI4
PHONE: XXKI1
Date: 14/09/2011
Android 2.3.4

this is the one I need right?

many thanks for everyones help

Personally, if I were you, I would stick rooted, leave flashing via Odin well alone as a few people have broken their phones using this, and flash a custom rom via Clockwork Mod recovery (a nice safe one like CheckRom that Mrs daffyduck uses on her phone).

I would attach a hyperlink but I would probably fail yet again lol!

im downloading the Checkrom v6 now.

i also have the GT-I9100_XEU_I9100XWKI4_I9100XEUKH2_I9100XXKI1.tar.md5 file now too.

so if i was to unroot. what else would I need? i repeat that im not planning on unrooting. its just incase i need to return the phone for some reason.

on a new note. how is it that my phone now uses less ram than it used to now rooted?

A USB jig to reset your flash counter. See Rooting for Dummies.

Rooting, by itself, should not affect your RAM usage. Removing bloatware would though. Don't forget that RAM is a movable feast and it is not a bad thing, on the SGSII, to have a large RAM usage.
