Another vote for root. I like Sense but I also like the ability to customize without being limited to what I can and can't do. I'd also like to grab Froyo sooner rather than having to wait on HTC and VZW.

I'm going to root so I can load Mobile Defense as a system app. Apparently loading it this way will survive a factory reset.

Simple. Free wifi tethering.

If verizon blocks the froyo built in feature I will be rooting other wise I don't see the need. The thing I absolutely love about android and these updates is that they are adding features that people want unlike iphone os updating features the phone should have had from the beginning.

So to answer the question proposed by the OP.... Maybe, it all depends on big red.

If they don't improve the Bluetooth...I really won't have many other options. From post I've seen on the HTC forums, it doesn't look like HTC has any intention of supporting their Bluetooth better.

I will root my phone for sure. I am getting my phone on the 7th and I am going to give it about a month so I am sure that everything works before I void my warranty.

As of now I don't think i would root my device. But then again I don't have it yet. Things could change.

No because I'm new to Android phones and I'm not yet comfortable enough to tinker with it and plus I like my Incredible the way it is now. I'm still learning.

I definitely will after it has been out for a couple months and the bugs worked out. Really liked wireless tethering with my laptop and iPad with my HTC Hero and miss it. Also would like to remove some apps I will never use/need. Lastly I want to mess with clock settings to see if I can get more battery life out of the 1750mAh battery instead of going to a larger battery that needs an extended battery cover to make it fit.

Yes, but...

I did the whole ROM flashing thing with my last WinMo phone...got old after while and there was always something that did not quite work right inthe custom ROMS. So, I am not sure if I will step back into the custom ROM scene.

My main motivation for root is to be able to use Titanium Backkup to get a true image backup of the phone so that if I do mess it up, I can easily go back to that point in time

As long as we can be sure it won't get bricked, I'll do it.

One thing I'd like to do is remove Sense from it entirely, go completely stock Android and build it up from there. I suspect that a big reason for the crappy battery life is HTC's "helpful" additions.

I will probably root for Wi-Fi tethering, and a couple of other root only apps. Plus, it will be nice to get FroYo sooner.

Would definitely do it to remove all the unnecessary apps (at least on BB you could hide them) and then wifi tethering of course :)

In this order, custom ROMs(froyo & vanilla), OCing, tethering & just having full access to my phone.

I CAN'T WAIT FOR ROOT!! I NEED IT.

You just cant be a open source lover (meaning android/linux) without going for root... It opens up a world of possibilities...

I am going to root immediately for wifi tether, trying custom roms, trying froyo etc. etc.... btw I feel the verizon community is much weaker in android development in comparison to sprint...

This phone is fast as it is but when you root you open a whole new world of possibilities for you and the phone.

When I had the Droid it was rooted running a 1.2ghz with custom themes and I loved it, so why wouldn't I do the same thing to the Dinc, root all the way.

Maybe. It depends on how good the Kernels are. If they don't 'wow' me over the chance of having sense with 2.2, I'm not going to waste time with it.

OP here...

I must say, I was against rooting my phone when I opened this post and I wanted to get everyone else's opinion on the matter.

Now I must say, I wish I could vote again in my poll because I'm dying to root. I forgot how much fun I had (even though I bricked my old Omnia 4 times) playing with it and customizing it so no other phone looked like it.

I hope the Incredible eventually gets the root, the cookers and the support that every other device has gotten despite the mixup that happened before.
