I am not able to vote. I need a "Maybe" box.

I plan on waiting to see how others rate the value of the root vs the hassle and risk. Also, I would like to see if 2.2 is going to hit the incredible some time this year...

Over all I am happy with my Dinc as is, but if I see a good reason to root, it is definitely an option I will consider.

At first, I was going to. Then I found that using the native tethering (not vzw or PDAnet) I wasn't that bothered by not having WiFi. Then I realized that even with over 100 apps, I was only using about half of the space available for apps, so I don't really NEED Android 2.2 yet, or any time soon. So I'll probably just sit back and wait for the HTC release of 2.2, which shouldn't be too long.

I would like root just so i can rid myself of the preinstalled garbage applications the phone came with, but other than that I dont think I have any particular use for it... so would it be nice? yes ... necessary? not at all.

Yes, i will. First android phone... want to try stock and wireless tethering..
Cousin had the wireless tethering on iphone while he was doing security for some famous guy...
sitting in his car while he was texting and me watching youtube / internet was badass :P

The only reason I want root is to uninstall the crapware tbh. If they would make an OTA update that allows us to uninstall them manualy I'd be just fine without root.

I will root the DINC because I want to control the speed of the processor more precisely when the phone is idle, etc. I have had the chance to play with under/overclocking some other phones and have been able to GREATLY increase battery life in most cases.

....and I'm an electronics/computer geek and I like to mess with this stuff.

You took the words out of my mouth. I would also love get rid of sense. Prefer all the custom Roms I have seen on my brothers Droid over sense.

I can't program my way out of a box, so I have no business rooting my phone. I like the way it works now anyway.

I will definetly be rooting , removing the blootware, wireless teather, bettery memory managment, slight overclocking and tunning to get better performance and battery life, also updates will come much quicker thru XDA then Verizon/HTC and I want to get rid of Sense ohh and I almost forgot being able to activate the front facing camera and LTE service haha

ps the last 2 were sarcasam

Same, but the Poll is saying the opposite

WHY ARE YOUR ANSWERS YES?!?!

Woossaahhhh.

Mine was 'no'. I would venture to guess that the poll is heavier 'yes' because people either don't really have a good reason and just want to do it, or they have reasons and don't feel the need to type out their explanations......

I will.

Pretty much everyone has covered my reasons:

Wifi tethering
Remove City ID

Depending on if rom flashing will come with root, flashing a vanilla 2.1, or froyo later.

Remove city ID? I think this is one of the coolest additions to the DInc. I mean, it really provides no help since I have caller ID, but I do from time to time get calls from random numbers I don't know. I tried using caller ID add-ons on the Eris and none of them worked right. At least I know this one does.

Right...but has your trial expired yet?? that is my issue, if it were free i would use it all the time...but its not.

oh, it's a trial? my fault then. i just got my phone yesterday so i'm still messing with it. how much is the full?

EDIT: Bah, for $1.99 a month I still think it's worth it. Considering I had to drop my insurance on my phone since I bought it off craigslist so I'm saving $8 there. Either way, still saving money... in my own mind :-)

Right now I don't care for Root... maybe a year from now once I'm bored with the phone I'd like it. And definitely if our updates aren't rolling through like everyone else's, then I'd want it.

I voted yes. Only so I can turn off the lights on the capacitive buttons!
Although I don't know how to do it once I root it.

Will installing stock Android mean I only have 3 home screens like a Droid. If so ill stick with sense.

All the home screens and scenes are awesome imho.
