Rooting Thunderbolt on First Day

I'm getting my thunderbolt in the mail on 4/21 and i've never had an android device before but after doing a lot of reading ive decided i want to root it because of all the bloatware the device comes with. Does anyone have any tips besides doing A LOT of reading? What are the chances of bricking it? Anything specific i should do to avoid it? I wouldn't want to break my brand new phone on the first day... Thanks in advance.

Go the auto_root route and you shouldn't have much trouble. All the adb is coded already. You just download, plug in your tbolt, and follow the prompts.

This is kind of an "age old debate" but people don't tell you to read up on things just to be difficult with you. Rooting really isn't very difficult and you can probably get by just fine with reading the instructions in one of the "how-to's".

The problem with not understanding what you are doing (i.e. one-click root methods, which don't truly exist for this device yet) is IF something goes wrong...what are you going to do? You have no knowledge to fall back on and will be at the mercy of some nice soul in the forums walking you through a fix for your problem (which will be difficult if you don't have the first clue in what you are doing).

You should try and at least get familiar with ADB and Clockwork Recovery. These two tools are used for rooting your device, romming you device, and most importantly...fixing your device. You don't need to memorize commands because those can be googled if needed, but you should get familiar with the basics.

My advice is to Google ADB or Clockwork Recovery...watch some videos, read some how-to's...just to gain some knowledge prior to rooting your device. It's really for your benefit and the videos and articles don't even have to be specifically for the Thunderbolt (as there isn't much of this content available for the Thunderbolt yet). ADB and Clockwork Recovery are universal tools used across most android devices.
