Root rooting tool, a 'one click' program!

BTW mate, this rom is very nice, i think he has incorporated a theme into it as a few changes are apparent. Lock screen has changed it is now a straight bar to unlock rather than the curved stock one, same with the home screen the bottom bar with app drawer/phone/+ is now straight and not curved like before, when things are selected they are now powder blue rather than green, all in all im very happy with how it looks, not really tested is performance as of yet, but reading reports, people are very happy, someone got 1500+ on a quadrant benchmark test, way faster than the N1!! :D

I installed this same ROM this avo, worked 1st time, a2sd+ definitely working; I did all the wipe the dev requests, used the ROM w/out radio (i already had it), and did it through the recovery screen rather than clockwork mod.
I like what s/he's done with it, nice ROM, cool extra/vanilla features, but I am still using the Sense launcher. Made a couple of reboots after setting up and restoring apps and it works very nicely. Voice to text works again, yay!
Have done 5 Quadrant tests, each about 1min apart and scores: 1189, 1342, 1310, 1371, 1362; about the same as N1 on 2.2.

sorry, I've gone a bit off-topic!

Sorry, i meant to post earlier, i got A2SD working by using your guide after flashing NeoPhyTe's rom, im on 99.56 MB free on internal but i only have 10-15 apps installed.... Not that bothered about that really though. this is such a cool looking rom.

Well, I finally took the big step. Rooted using unrevoked, then loaded the Opendesire 1.0c ROM. Went like clockwork. Figured ROM manager can do only 512MB Ext partition, whereas I wanted 1024. Flashed Amon Ra recovery and created an EXT3 partition of 1024MB using that. Everything went smooth a butter so got bold at this point and tried to install the cool battery circle mod. Got stuck at boot screen after this, no response from the phone at all. So used Amon Ra recovery again to reflash the ROM. Worked fine after that, used Titanium to restore all the apps and data and then used ROM manager to fix permissions. All cool now, loving the Froyo experience :) Big thanks to all the Android gurus here

Yup, it was really very easy and quite quick too. Downloading NeoPhyTe now, but I think am gonna stick to the official Froyo Sense 1.0c for some time. Especially after a bit of a hair raising experience I had with the Super battery circle mod. I think I probably tried to install the wrong version.

Quick question though... I can only boot into Amon Ra recovery now, not Unrevoked.. how do I get back to that? Or should I stick to that only and use it for flashing new ROMs in the future? I do have ROM Manager installed, though haven't used it to download any ROM yet. Wonder if it can flash a new ROM directly...

AFAIK mate, you get back to recovery by holding Vol down while powering on and you should see a choice for recovery, i used clockwork mod and that is how i get back to it, you dont need unrevoked any longer mate, to install a new rom you want to download ROM manager from the market, you can then flash a new rom while walking to the shop (its really that easy, i did it the other day!!) also down load titanium back up from market

1. d/l the rom you want
2. put it on SD
3. do a titanium back up (all apps and user data)
4. go into recovery (like i said above)
5. Do a nandroid back up (you will see the option within recovery)
6. flash Radio, then ROM (specific to developers install instructions)
7. reboot
8. restore with nandroid back up and titanium back up(if it has gone from your phone, dont worry, re down load it and do a full restore of apps and user data)
9.......... There is no 9 as far as i can remember.......

Im sure i have that correct, someone please correct me if i have made mistake???

Hi all, and thanks for the nice clear guide. Need some help please...

I'm stuck at the first boot after installing the new Radio and ROM. I've had the green HTC logo on a white background for about 15 mins. Is this normal, and if not, what should I do?

Thanks.

I gave it 30-40 mins and it never got off the HTC screen. I assume it should have done something by then, so I gave up and restored to 2.1. If anyone knows why it gets stuck on the HTC logo, could they please let me know and I'll try again?

It does tend to sit there for a little while i think mine was something like around 1 - 2 mins before it fired up on first boot.
Sounds like yours hung up on the boot up, you should have tried taking out the battery & restarting the boot up.
If that still didn't work try reinstalling the rom

Thanks. I pulled the battery, and it failed to boot a second and third time. Restored to the 2.1, and downloaded the radio and rom files again (incase corrupted). Same result. I didn't make a gold card, but as I understand it you're not supposed to need a gold card on the "one click" method. I'm trying to install through the ROM manager app now, but expect I'll get the same results because it's essentially the same method...

What rom are you trying m8

I'm using the ROM linked in Lekky's "Upgrade to stock Froyo 2.2" thread.
Radio - 32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04.zip
ROM - DeFroST_2.0f.zip

edit - this thread recommends defrost2.1 with 32.42.0032U_5.9.00.08. Oops. I'll try again.

Weird. I tried the Defrost 2.4 as suggested, but got the error
"e: can't chown/mod /date/local/resolv.conf
e:failure at line 394:
set_perm 0 0 0644 DATA: local/resolv.conf
installation aborted."

Yep, that's done it, thanks. All seems to be running ok now.

Sorry to add another question - can I add HTC Sync back on my PC now, or is it incompatable with the new ROM?

Not tried myself but i can't see why not as it only had to be removed for the rooting tool.

HTC Sync doesn't seem to work because when you connect the desire with the new ROM, the only options shown on the phone are USB Storage On and Off. I had hundreds of contacts and calendar entries on there unfortunately...

Loving the 2.2 ROM though. It's way faster. The only thing I'm missing from the old Sense is the mail widget which I used to have showing my hotmail account, hopefully I'll find an equivolent.

Apologies for what may sound like a dumb question, but if I have created an EXT3 partition of 1024MB on the SD card... shouldn't I be getting the same capacity for installing apps? From what I understand, the phone is fooled into thinking that the EXT3 partition is part of the phone memory. Then how come I am getting only 100+ MB remaining? Using the Official Froyo 1.0c ROM with the updated radio btw...

No, your phone memory wont increase mate, i have 105 MB free of phone memory, so it sounds about right mate.
