Root Rooting Virgin..help!!!!!!!!

well i wqas more asking which on of the above did you download from cool3d's link
what was the name of the zip file.

alot of roms now requite an ext partition and in most cases its good to have one due to a2sd+ support. i would recommend reading the a2sd faq

I read the glossery terms about a2sd and a2sd+...if there a link to show/tell me how to go about doing the partition?...is it difficult?...I am scared of messing with "radios" at all, just reading about them and how messing those up can brick your phone..:(......thanks!!

you dont need to touch radio, yours is fine.

there are gparted guides on the faw's including one for using vmware player (virtual environment)

I watched the video, found it kinda confusing, probably just my inexperience with all this, do I need to partition my SD card if the ROM I am installing allows me to send all apps to my card anyway?...or is that not the reason for partitioning your card?..

quick question...what is Wireless Tethering?....I am hearing alot about this, seems to me it's just an app that allows you to nab wireless whereever you are..?...is this correct?

You connect your laptop to your desires WiFi then connect to the mobile network. Your desire is basically a wireless router for your computer

Thanks, good tip, I'll try it that way!....I tried another ROM (Cool3D, as it was a Sense ROM and I just wanted to see the difference between Sense and AOSP)...anyway, I downloaded it, moved it to my SD Card, went into recovery mode, did a wipe and then install zip from SD Card, well it seemed to go through alright, but when it re-booted, I was stuck at the boot screen (HTC quietly brilliant) and it would just boot that screen, go black, then boot it again, I finally had to a restore of my original ROM (the one that came with the phone)...everything works fine, but has anyone had this problem with a ROM or that ROM before?...did I do anything wrong?
Do you have a second partition (ext3 or ext4 format) on your SD card? You don't mention it in the thread, so I'm going to guess not. Apologies if I'm wrong!

Sense 1.0 is the original Sense that the Desire came with. Sense 2 and Sense 3 are later versions, designed for phones with more internal storage. So to fit such ROMs onto a Desire, the devs use a linux-formatted partition on the sd card to "extend" the phone's storage and let the ROM fit. If you don't have such a partition (1 GB in size is recommended) then none of the Sense 2 or Sense 3 ROMs will work.

See the root memory FAQ (from the "all things root" sticky thread, red link in my sig) for information about partitioning the card - it's the same thing that many people do to increase app storage space with the Desire.

It's just these newer Sense ROMs that need this. Other ROMs will work without, though you may still want to investigate partitioning anyway to give yourself more space for apps.

Hi, even I am stuck to choose. Since I wanted sense Rom, I checked InsertCoin, Cool 3D, and Super Nova.
I have rooted stock desire and ext4 partition card. For cool 3D, though very tempting, does it need new radio n new hboot? Can I just download n install the Rom zip file? Could not find clear install instruction for cool 3D.

Even I was in much confusion. So went over it again n again. I used the VMWare method on Windows. Also found step by step process here as well as in Xda. I did it. But to verify need to install a2sd+ Rom.... so working to make up my mind....and reading those threads as much as possible.:(

You need to partition to get more space for apps, using a2sd+. Faq is very useful. Read all the faq from suroot and also the guides on how to do.

I just had a look at the XDA thread for Cool 3D v2 (Runnymede), and while it doesn't give explicit install instructions it seems that it's intended for the CM7r2 hboot but has a "Stock_hboot.zip" that it tells people using the default hboot to flash after flashing the ROM. So I guess those are your instructions ;)

It doesn't say anything about ext either, but maybe they just take that for granted. I'm sure it will need one.

It says latest radio and RIL, but I'd only update the radio if you have a problem. RIL should be part of the ROM anyway, so I don't know why they bother saying that bit.

Could not find clear instructions for install. InsertCoin has a link for instructions though. Surely we can't expect real nice guides like those of Suroot.:-)
If I flash a new hboot n use that Rom, what about when want to flash another Rom or when I want bring it back to my stock root? From nandroid backup? Will that restore put back the hboot also?
