Root Rooting with out custom recovery?

Do I have to load a new ROM? I just want to gain root access so I can simple things like tether, link2sd, and remove bloatware. What is the point of loading a new ROM?

Also when it comes to a ROM what does deodexed mean?

I rooted simply to get rid of the bloatware, no need to load custom rom. Root it, install Titanium pro and uninstall the crap.

Your missing half the fun buy just rooting and not installing a custom ROM!! Read this as JerryScript mentions a few things a newer custom ROM has to offer. You can take it for a test drive... if you don't like it, revert back to your backup and your phone is like you left it. Once I experienced the custom ROM, I'll never ever go back to stock. Unless I'm selling it of course.

Now that your rooted you can accidentally delete something that will cause your system to freeze or only go to the LG logo screen.

IT IS MOST IMPORTANT THAT YOU INSTALL A RECOVERY AND MAKE A BACKUP(NANDROID BACKUP) OF YOUR SYSTEM IN THE CUSTOM RECOVERY SO THAT YOU WILL HAVE A BACKUP TO FALL BACK ON.
