phones arent perfect if they were then no body would be rooting or making custom ROMS

Android is meant to be modded >.> anything with linux is. It is meant to be changed by the user to how the user likes it, and if the user does not like it(see Unity, gnome 3, etc), they move to something else, im not telling him to get an iPhone specifically, more just if he is the type that likes things stock to get that.
HTC is well known to come like crap out of the box, modders usually make them great phones.
I apologize for my personal attack. However I am getting rather sick of people registering and complaining about a phone that requires a bit of work to get something great, I find modding/hacking fun. I have even rooted someones phone over teamviewer for free because they couldnt figure it out, it is enjoyable to me. The amount of posts you have matters nothing, the CONTENT of said posts does. If i see you have 8 posts and you are already posting about how much you hate something, and i personally can disprove everything you say, I will.
However all of the bad PR given by people who are unwilling to read or do a bit of modding upsets me. Do your research before you drop 300$ on anything much less a phone.
I understand some people dont like to mod things, thus my suggestion to move to an iPhone, they do "just work" I dont like things that just work, i like to do a little modding on things, i love being able to chagne something exactly how i want, and the more involved the more i enjoy it. digging into an apk to change the settings before i flash it is something i do with relish.
Yes, there are issues with this phone. there are bugs in everything, I am a programmer, I have absolutely zero android experience, but I work for the government, I make mistakes, I have found my own mistakes and have had others find my mistakes, I am human, it is normal. I dont throw an utter fit and say WELL IT WASNT ME, i use it as a learning experience so that i don't do that specific thing wrong again.
No one is contesting that Android can be modded. No one is complaining about the need to tweak a few things here or there. No one is expecting (wishing for, maybe, but not expecting) a phone to come out of the box perfect, with no issues.
The difference that some of you are not hearing others make is that there are flaws, issues with phones not being perfect, and then there are phones that come with fundamental problems that really impact the usability and practicality of using a phone first and foremost as, well, a phone.
The issues that the Evo V is currently experiencing are not debilitating in that it's (generally, for most people that have this problem) not a 24/7 issue affecting you all the time- rather, it's a fundamental problem that is persistent. While you can use your phone normally some of the time, it is annoying and wrong that the problem pops up over and over again. I know that I have missed doctor calls, and calls from family or friends, simply because I don't check my network signal strength every 3 minutes, and didn't notice it was stuck in -120 dBm. It has gotten stuck like that during the night as well, and stayed that way until the morning sometime, when I noticed, and restarted the phone. My signal jumps constantly. And I am in an area with excellent coverage, with no outages.
This isn't just a minor flaw, it's a bigger problem. This has nothing to do with modding or the "Android experience." Android is not synonymous with "cool, I'm gonna buy this phone for $250-$600 and expect it to not work, cuz it's Android, but no biggie because all I have to do is root it, perform a wire trick, s-off, and flash new radios and software."
Android is great because you can tweak a ton of things. You can flash a custom ROM, or kernel, underclock or overclock, or whatever makes you happy. You don't even need to go as deeply as that. You can simply be happy downloading Go SMS and Dolphin Browser, because, as the OP pointed out, highlighting the address in the default one is annoying. But these are CHOICES that you can make. They shouldn't be required because the phone is not operational on its own.
I personally find it just as annoying when people tell owners that complain to "go buy an iPhone." That's creating an extreme of "either go learn to h4x your phone, or leave." Not every Android user wants to get into modding that deeply- or should be expected to. I have rooted my phone and more, but why should I be required to go s-off to fix this? That's ridiculous, and no one should accept this as ok after having to pay for this phone. If you did it and aren't experiencing this problem any more, that's fantastic, but not everyone wants to mess with insulated wire and hardware, even if it takes 30 seconds.
Owners of this phone have several choices: 1) deal with it 2) move to another carrier 3) complain and bombard VM and HTC hoping that they will release a fix and resolve this 4) try the fix that Leslie Ann and others have come up with 5) option 3+ any other number.
Whatever anyone does is their choice, but regardless, blaming the user rather than the companies is absurd.
Not sure how you feel about the Galaxy SIII, but its rumored and more then likely Metro will be getting that phone.
Going to be a lot of money though.

I would love to have that phone. I've never tried Metro though, and would be wary to try. They also don't have 4G in my city, according to their coverage map. It's great that they're getting it though, because any of these advances help the other prepaid companies to advance too. The S3 is definitely not a hand-me-down phone. If this stirs up some competition, it's great, because I'm keeping my eye out for other choices, and I'm sure many others are too.
