Rumor: Cupcake 1.5 to be the last version for Galaxy?

sure that was an exaggeration, but i seriously doubt samsung has eclair for the galaxy before march at least, tho' yes, it is just speculation

Samsung seem so blaze about all this. There is just no news about updates. I bought this phone thinking it the best hardware device with Android out there. The Hero with Sense gives a lot more software wise but I knew that would be hackable onto the Galaxy (not that I've managed so far). But I thought Samsung would provide updates and better yet come out with something as interesting as Sense. But despite the Behold II in the States there seems to be nothing coming for the Galaxy. It's left to us to homebrew and even that doesn't give us half the stuff we want. No 1.6 means we're left with an awful camera interface, wasting one of the supposed main benefits of this phone. Quite how people always go "this would be a great phone if it only had Android on it" when refering to Windows Mobile phones I don't know, Android at 1.5 is so basic it beggars belief. I wish I'd waited another year til 2.5, the mix of half baked software and no support from Samsung just makes me sad at this wasted opportunity.

If they kept us informed, put 1.6 on it and we knew 2.0 was coming then i'd be so excited about my new phone. As it is, I feel I've just wasted a lot of money and feel the next two years of my contract is going to be a major drag.

i don't get it - why the hell wouldn't they update the galaxy's firmware to 2.0 if they're gonna make other phones with eclair? isn't half the work done by then anyway? (yeah, of course there's all the tedious testing and hardware specific tweaks, but considering the benefit)

We should demand o2 refund us, what a waste of money. O2 just say it's of no concern to them.

well its not o2's problem is it? the phone works as a phone. they just give a contract on what phone you desire. you desired one with a bit of a flaky background.

as consumers we pay the price for being different or being adventurous. it either works out or backfires

in this case its both and neither at the same time

my galaxy works how i want it too pretty much so im not that fussed

So much paranoia about this. I'll eat my galaxy if we don't get eclair till spring. Me thinks Galaxy might be last android phone to get eclair but it will come to us for sure....

It can't be true, wouldn't make more sense for Samsung to remove the device from the market if they're not going to support it? I think this is another nonsense rumor build up in the cloud, certainly a move like this would ruin Samsung reputation for sure, and not making theme look any better in this now so competitive and compelling market, what I've got really surprised is if you type on Google "samsung galaxy i7500" what big result you get. Anyway happy so far with this beauty, just looking forward to update in January for the 2.0.
Peace

If samsung would actually fix problems in firmware releases and not just make them to support additional carriers with CSC files or to do small tweaks like to adjust the lock button timer, people would not care.

Outstanding issues in II5 firmware:

* dialer getting into bad state where you cannot press buttons while on a call using the touchscreen
* Camera flash still not working even though the phone was sold with this feature
* Lock button sometimes works as expected, but not usually
* baseband firmware bugs

I'm sure there are more, but these seem pretty brown paper bag.

Yup, still here, just swamped with work. The memory thing reminds me of the other brown paper bag bug in II5. The broken libhgl.so that they shipped. What other major company would ship such a major regression without a followup release.

To add to the frustration, google released navigation in the market today for 1.6.
