HTC One Max clears the FCC

FCC clearance means announcement may be looming sooner than we thought.

So the Chinese version might come out the 15th/17th of this month (depending who your source is) and the EU/World version (which is what that ^ FCC article is regarding) will come shortly there after. What does this mean for the US?

Hopefully we are making steps in the right direction, however they feel like baby steps. The number of days left in the calendar year are dwindling quickly. If I've had to wait this long already then I can surely wait until 2014 with newer and better things around corner. I'm none too keen on taking last years lukewarm mobile camera technology into the new year.

yeah i wonder why htc is not rushing to get this beast out yet to the public. what are they waiting for? i do believe that it will more like towards the end of oct will we see it....at least in the states.

and yeah to be honest the ultrapixel camera has not sold me yet.......anybody seen it in action with the one(i think)?

I've seen it in action on my wife's ONE. It isn't as detailed as the higher mega pixel shooters, but it is by no means bad. I'll say this, I'd choose the One's images over the Moto X images. If I want detailed images, I have a DSLR for that, I don't use my phone's camera for important pictures. That's just my opinion though and I recognize that other folks needs differ.

I'd be perfectly fine with the 4ultra pixel shooter, but if HTC is smart, they'd try up that number.

Well... I bit the bullet on a LG Optimus G Pro... found an ebay deal for 268 for a great condition one and just jumped on it. I still have my upgrade and will still be following news for the Max, but I was at the end of my rope with the Note 1 and it's crappy JB TW rom.

I'll still be around here, but just wanted to drop that note in here (pun intended haha).

If the one max is all I had hoped for, I'll sell my note 1 to recoup the cost and keep the LG pro as my backup lol

i hear you on jumping the gun early. waiting for any confirmation on this phone is driving me crazy!!!!!! i'm leaning more and more on the note 3 which i might pickup tomorrow when it is supposedly going to be released. i'm with sprint so i can try the note 3 for 30 days before i can return it and hopefully by then the one max will be out......so i can always change my mind by then.

Yea it's hard to wait sometimes. I mean, I've only been with my Galaxy Nexus for about two years now but I have the itch. It honestly still works fine for most of my needs but the screen is degrading (horizontal lines issues) and I need something bigger. A treat for my eyes and a treat for me.

One could wait forever for the perfect phone but some times you just gotta jump. I'll give them to October 15th.

We'll see...

Hope to god. Not quite removable battery but I'd settle for a microSD. My provider here is value unlimited everything but the data tends to be slow and/or flakey for time to time, with coverage not being wide either. So having onboard/microsd storage is vital for me.

EDIT: Wait, but this place reports ( http://www.phonesreview.co.uk/2013/10/04/htc-one-max-images-show-nice-new-features/ ) the following:

It is also being claimed that there will be some new accessories that include an additional battery door that will have its own 1,200 mAh battery that fixes to the device via three pins underneath the stock battery cover of the handset.

So 1st or 3rd party accessory that does....

HTC One Max snapped without a back cover, release date is next week

If this is true and the base is 16GB i'm still ok with that since it has the SD card. But still no details on the processor so hopefully it was wrong or just the international version. If not, then it needs to have a significantly lower price point than the note 3.

Ok here is what I do not get, if you are trying to raise some buzz about your product why not release the official specs by now? Why do we have to go all thru this guess work and rumors?

And you bring up a good point about price......the note 3 is selling for $349 so I'm hoping the max wool be lower then that if they decide to go with 16g and the s6 vs the 32g and s8 with the note 3.

And that brings us back to HTC's main problem right now. Sure, they've had hardware blunders in the past but for the most part, their devices are solid. It's the marketing side of HTC that is failing right now. People don't know about HTC products until they see it for sale in retail.

And for that fact alone, they'll continue to suffer and play 3rd 4th or 5th fiddle, whatever it is now. I can appreciate their effort to get RDJ onboard to do some advertising but a one time video is far from enough. They need to be taking out commercials on a semi-regular basis, advertising their phones to their mass markets.

Couldn't agree more. I've seen them all over twitter and in some cases on the best buy flyers but when my wife was shopping for the One, she didn't know what HTC was? Had never heard of it. That's a marketing/brand problem and that is what HTC struggles with.

I only know HTC because i'm a nerd and had the original G1. Verizon folks probably know more about HTC than most as they had a few really nice Droid branded handsets. But you're absolutely correct about htc right now. They need more than just an obscure RDJ commerical that does nothing for brand awareness. They need to re-assert their image and hurry the hell up and release the max lol.

I've also decided to keep the OG Pro and sell my Note 1 when this is released. Assuming it's a fantastic device. If not, then I'm happy with my purchase.

Yeah I think rdj was a great marketing tool, but it was half assed IMO. Htc should have more commercials out by now. They have always done there marketing half assed. Maybe they should pull someone from the Samsung marketing team to show them how it is done.

The one thing I like about htc is the build quality. There handsets are always designed well IMO. PLUS I the metal vs plastic as well.

Unfortunately for us, this is very sound reasoning. :( It seems like coming in with the lower priced parts and subsequently overall lower price point is about their only chance to try to "hang in". I can still hold onto my strands of hope though for some surprise, until they crush my dreams of what could have been. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised though.

I suspect the continuing wait is due to the impending "shopping season", and they are waiting for the other guys to show off and release their new products while trying to sidle up closer to the busiest weeks of the year to release their own device? (or at least it is the only halfway logical attempt I can surmise at making sense of it)

I tire of the marketing comments I hear every time HTC brings a phone to market (but also between releases). Year in and year out folks like to point their finger to marketing. I don't disagree with the comments, the trend obviously cannot be denied. I just don't like hearing it over and over as if it is some crutch to lean on. Truly great products should sell themselves. While difficult for a product to sell itself in the fast paced cut throat mobile world, the ability is still there to make a fleeting yet significant name for one's-self with word of mouth alone. Just imagine the extremely high volume of reporting sources and blogs that cover the world of mobile devices that have become so ubiquitous. I'd love to see a manufacturer push the envelope and try something new or different.

I don't need more commercial marketing/advertising. It is one thing I could live with much less of.

I put my thoughts down regarding the recent "Change Campaign" over here in the HTC Forum:

Don't get me wrong, I also think good products should essentially sell themselves. I wish that more money, R&D and overall innovation could be put into products but that's not the reality we live it. Just like the enthusiast pc market, those of us who care about some of the finer points are just a small piece of the pie. We're the <1%. HTC could make the best phone ever known to have existed... except... this would never come to be without proper marketing to appeal to the mass consumer. This is what keeps a company afloat; Samsung realized that during their early days where they were somewhat flailing around when it came to the international markets.

Sure we live in a different world, which is more connected and when something worth paying attention to gets traction, it's spread like wildfire through social media, blogs, etc. But for as many things that do, think of how many get lost in that same chaos.

It's definitely not a crutch, it's just plain old fact.

More news of a Oct 15th announcement. Though I do not like the statement of the S4 Pro.

HTC One Max to officially be unveiled October 15th, says WSJ | MobileSyrup.com

yeah that is the first that i heard of.....if true, why would they do that? does not make sense....maybe for price point?

It's quite possible. Another rumour is that Snapdragon 800 is high in demand and they're having problems keeping up the supply. Suffice to say, unless they have some other hidden major features it may hamper this device's place in the market. I know expecting a stylus would be too much but I don't know.

I might be concerned all over nothing as I have not seen any specifications yet that state it will support the radio band I need here in Canada.

Might as well just be throwing darts at a dart board. If you follow their two quoted sources, neither of them say anything about the processor/SoC on board. The S4 Pro seems completely out of left field. Total crapshoot at this point.

Only up to a 32g sd card? The note 3 can do up to a 64g card......how is this competing with Samsung's note 3

I'm done with the speculation and rumor sites. I think i'm just going to wait on the announcement and then watch a few reviews before making my move. Obviously some hands on time would be required :).

Even if it has the S600, I'm still interested, the SD is an unexpected bonus even if it is only 32GB.

I'm not even sure it's meant to be a note 3 competitor. I think it's just an option, which brings me back to what I love most about Android ;)... CHOICE.

I'll sit tight watch the news, but take it all with a grain of salt. Only the announcement is going to deliver fact. Everything else is still just 'rumor'.

not sure if 32g is a bonus or not;)

but i hear you about the rumors...it is what it is.......rumors.

i would have thought that by now htc would have released something more concrete by now.

in the mean time i went out and upgraded to the note 3.....but i have 30 days to change my mind......if the max ever comes out and i like what they go with officially then i might switch.......that is if they plan to release it in the next 30 days or so......crossing fingers.

Only up to a 32GB SD card? The Note 3 can do up to a 64GB card......how is this competing with Samsung's Note 3

Its just another bogus rumor/specification listing limitation. The hardware bus will accept 64GB MicroSD cards, HTC/retailers aren't going to confirm or deny whether or not some accessory will or will not work with their device. (For example they sold the Evo 3D and Evo 4G LTE with an "up to 32GB MicroSD card slot" however, after the 64GB cards were released it turned out that they worked perfectly with a 64GB card - of course there was the apprehension within the MicroSD HC->XC and file format change but those details turned out to be inconsequential as Linux/Android was coded with these changes in mind).
Some of the other manufacturers/retailers still only state "up to 32GB MicroSD" on their device specification sheets too.

The One Max will accept 128GB cards if they are ever released...

If it only accepts 32GB of the higher capacity cards, then it will have to be a new HTC only self imposed software limitation, which is very unlikely and would make alot of folks pretty angry.
