Root Running VooDoo 5 with stock rom.

I had DJ05 installed at one time, but went back to DJ01. I noticed that I had my Voodoo lag fix diasabled in my voodoo folder. so to see if i could use voodoo, i deleted the folder and rebooted. everything worked except it locked up on boot.

so i tried 2 restore files i have, and because crap "Program Launcher I DONT USE" gives me constant force closes on my backups, rendering those backups useless, SO to save my ass i used a restore i made when i very first got my phone.

So I boot into recovery, find out i have a red CWM, enable lagfix there, reboot and get the two file conversion voices.

And it boots. And its quick ! and its quick as hell ! Quad score of 1701 on a stock phone !!!

I think Voodoo 5 should be a separate package on the market.

voodoo5 is not meant to be used with dio1...it breaks haptic feedback as well as some other minor issues...you can use it...but its not meant to be used that way

i still dont know why you went back to dio1 and gave up the gps and signal reporting fixes (among others) from dj05

and voodoo5 could not be a separate package on the market because it would have to have dozens of versions across numerous sgs phones and their incompatible roms. kernels dont go into the market

If kernels went into the market there would be more "bricked" phones than a million of us could fix...;)

Well what happened to me and DJ05 is that i was happy until my WIFI stopped working. I checked by taking a walk through the apts and found several unsecured WIFI's but couldnt lock onto them. Constant "obtaining address" issues. Since iam on WIFI constantly, this was an issue. My Text messages had also stoped working, but didnt notice till later cause i dont use them that much.

So i tried a diff ROM and got constant FORCE CLOSES by crap launcher that basicly bricked the phone. It pissed me off that somehow these programs i dont use or install had somehow got on the phone, and was now causing force closes even after fixing permissions in CWM.

SO add in No WIFI, No SMS, Crap LAuncher forcing closes bricking my phone that i didnt knowingly install, and then a little pissy issue i had with OTA updates (info-path)
being deleted, i just went back to DJ01.

That backup i made on 11/12, which was my last save your ass the easy way file, worked, so i stuck with it till this morning when i got stupid and wanted to see if i could get voodoo 5 on a stock setup.

So after a couple of "stuff" this morning, i got it sorted out.

which is what i now have. its quick, and iam not fckg with it till froyo comes out.

wifi issues are common when trying to lock onto unsecured routers with this phone depending on the frequency they are set to. many people initially have issues with their own routers/work routers until this fixed.

the text issue was most likely because you were missing 1 of 3 things...dj05 radio, rom, or kernel. i have yet to encounter anyone else whos text issue wasnt resolved by finding out they were missing 1 of these things

and by "crap" launcher im assuming you are refering to touchwiz...which is easily removable by pasting another launcher into system/app then deleting/freezing touchwizlauncher. jt includes tw launcher in his roms as some people want social networking sync and you cant have that without tw...its easily removable however.

there is always the stock dj05 rom that is the same as ota would have been for dj05 (except prerooted).

and voodoo5 is at its most basic...merely a kernel...as long as cwr is on your phone you can flash kernels, regardless of whether you are running a custom rom or not (or rooted for that matter).

whether or not you have a setup a certain way is entirely personal preference. im just explaining possible solutions to the various problems you have described.

yea i agree with what you say, you know your stuff. but i have no experience with any launcher program. i know nothing about an install, substitution, re-setting of LAUNCH programs.

see it from my point of view. you have just restored, everything is cool, except these launch programs are giving constant force closes. they stop everything and you cant stop them.

all the steps i had taken to save my tail and keep from having brick 2 were being killed by launchers !!!! LOL

yea the next step would have been Odin, but why? backups should work, cause they are called backups.

to each his own. i was just trying to point out solutions, thats all.

for me having to odin or restore isnt a big deal, i can do it in about 10 mins from brick to good...but i can understand people not wanting to do all of that.

in either event, its always good to try and understand why your phone is doing something, or get to the bottom of an issue...tends to help down the road ;)

Agreed with nit. There is something else going on with your phone. I have yet to hear, witness any problems when installing DJ05 properly. You only hear shouts of joy from the performance improvements, GPS, etc.
I also challenge anyone to brick this phone. I haven't found a way yet. And I've given it a go, I promise.

Also, nit is one if the super heros here. Heed his advice.

adrynalyne actually went a bit crazy and tried to brick his phone by flashing i9000 voodoo, to see if that would kill it....it didnt...his dio1 all in one package fixed it.

so basically with the radios files, there is virtually nothing you can do to perma-brick this phone. even when trying :)

I love it! If adrynalyne cant even brick it :) I have known with my intermediate knowledge of the debug bridge, the ODIN files, nandroid backups, I am totally comfortable with trying anything. I know there's always a way to click my heals and return home.

Yeah, the all-in-one is and all-in-wonder :D

Okay so I'm running DJ05 stock, and the lag is really getting on my nerves, can you guys help me out as to what kernels I can use with my current setup to remove the lag?

I previously tried some of the kernels on ROM manager, but I didn't notice any difference, i did however notice that those kernels will mess up your Audio out/conversation, what i mean is, when in my car (Chevy) i plug in my phone to my car's AUX port so i can hear music and also carry a conversation (can hear it on my car speakers) after using a kernel from ROM Manager that stopped working.

With that said, what's the best way to get a kernel that can help either reduce or eliminate lag!!

Thanks

im not big on audio on my phone, so i cant comment to that with kernels...but many seem to like stupidfast versions a lot....

personally ive only used voodoo5 for about exactly a month now...so i havent used any rfs kernels on dj05 in awhile. voodoo5 is fine, its easier than old vooodoo to deal with, but still the warning remains that things can/will go wrong with it and ya gotta be prepared to recover :o
