S III Battery use

Yeah, but at least within the OS you can now disable/enable it. While you could with Titanium Backup before, it's now a great feature for non-rooters.

i dont want to disable maps...i want it to not use battery/gps when i dont choose to use it

Yeah, I'll start taking screen captures of my usage. It will be a day or two before I post them, though. Keep in mind, though, that I usually plug in when I'm around 5%.

Love this thing!

I had to uninstall dolphin hd I think it was the culprit for me. I searched the forums and see that others are having the same issue with it. Anyone else?

it probably isnt actually running. the location services are listed as maps. when you click the process it will tell you what it actually is. Any time any program at all uses anything location, it will use those services and register as maps. disabling all location services and rebooting should remove this without having to fully disable maps. just remember that as soon as you enable location services and something tries to use one it will be back.

what google needs to do is separate the services from maps so it is clear this is whats happening.

i seem to be getting "Android System" using an abnormal amount of battery in the past day or two...gonna have to try and track it down...
Same here. Any luck tracking it down? I'm getting 50+% on Android System! Something is not right.

The 2100 mAh battery may be smaller, but Samsung bundle power saving technology into it. I bet its comparable.
not even close to comparable to the maxx, my daughter just got the S3, very nice phone, really like the form factor holding it compared to the maxx but maxx is in a league of its own right now regards to battery as I am a very heavy user, the smart actions of the maxx will even extend battery longer but don't really need it as long as I make it from 5 am in the morning till 11 pm at night with heavy use. Of course had the original incredible and would just just change out the batteries in the afternoon and could get all day use as well, then just charge them both at night with a wall charger so battery has never been really a big deal for me as it is for many. The maxx does take longer to charge though but again not a big deal as do it at night while sleeping... S3 seems like a much better Samsung experience as my daughter had the fascinate and that was basically a piece of crap as we went through 3 of them....

well i can tell you that after disabling all the events that cause Maps to start, using the auto-start manager in ROM Toolbox that Maps has not shown up on my battery usage screen all day...location services are all still on but its not showing up anymore...

Any tricks to get ROM Toolbox running on the S3? Am rooted and pretty proficient with the Android system from managing boot loaders on.

ROM Toolbox simply slows the phone to an absolute crawl and then shows a black screen when loaded. Basically unusable.

Thanks!

my trick was simply installing it from its backup in titanium and then clicking on it...didn't do anything special at all...

sorry i couldn't be of more help...my suggestion would be to clear the app cache/data and see how that works...

Hard to say, since you put it on the charger for a bit..

Completely forgot about that, connected it to see if there was any updates, whoops!

I've been hammering it today, had about 4 1/2 hours of screen time so the battery isn't too good!

I'll post another up on a normal day.

How much screen time do you want??

This is fairly typical, if I don't push it too hard...

I don't do anything "special." I'm not using power save, but I do keep my screen at 15% as much as possible. And the dark wallpaper probably helps. It looks like my wi-fi/LTE usage is more like a 66/34 split. Not sure if there's anything else I need to explain, though...

4 1/2 hours screen time was playing games and using a live wall paper
wifi off most of the day, was home and haven't hooked it in yet, and had data turned off half the day
tons of texting and a call

Can someone explain how this battery settings work? I mean is the percentage of battery used for different activities since the last full charge or just the last 100% used?

Battery stats are from the last charge that was over 90%. If you recharge to 90% and unplug, your stats reset. If you charge to 95%, use down to 92%, plug in and charge to 98%, battery stats reset again.
