S III Battery use

@above 10% an hour? Yikes!

Mine usually drops at a rate of 5% per hour on standby with Wifi/GPS/4G off.
Battery life on this phone is great!! (And coming from a Razr Maxx, that's saying something!)

Today I tried turning the LTE off.

So far it seems to be a lot better. I still haven't used the phone much today (30 min screen time and a 30 minute phone call), but the battery is holding much better.

It is now at over 5 hours and still at 81%. Much better than the last two days where it drained inexplicably with LTE on.

It seems, so far, that LTE is the culprit for draining the battery even when you aren't using the phone. I will keep an eye on it though.

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone else has this problem....my S3 drains battery life like there's no tomorrow. I can be using it for 10 minutes and lose 12% battery life already. I have a backup battery and it's the same problem. I turned off most of the things I think are using up power, and also downloaded juice defender, but doesn't seem to help much. What am I missing? I see others having 20 hours of life with continuous usage. I think if I use it for 2 hours the battery will be dead!

First get the app Better Battery Stats:

Cliky #1

Once you have that installed, follow the direction is the first post of the thread below to generate and decipher a dump file.

Clicky #2

I had bad battery life too. Once I did the above, I now have an estimated 4 days of standby time on the phone.

Keep in mind to get maximum battery life you will likely need to root and use Titanium Backup to freeze (or remove) some unneeded apps that may be the cause of your excess battery drain.

Mine for today. I'm using JuiceDefender, and I've removed almost all bloatware.

Hi,

I just had my Samsung Galaxy S3 yesterday, I've charged it for the first time before turning it on, then I went for a walk, I could see that the battery was discharging *but I was using the nike plus app.
Anyway, I plugged the charger to my phone all night long and when I picked it up this morning the battery was only at 71% for about 7hours of charging, so it only change of about 30% in 7hours.

Now I try to charge it while connecting it to my computer, but it isn't working. The phone doesn't seem to recognise that I've plugged it. I tried it with the phone on and with the phone off, but the same thing happen.

Would anybody now if it's a bug, or if I need to change something in the setting ?

Thanks. :)

Try a good old factory reset and then if that doesn't work try calibrating you battery.

S3 with AT& T and so far love it. I notice from the images posted lots of Android system is in the single digit %...mine is in the mid to upper 40+%.

Would this affect battery life and if so any suggestion to improve would be appreciated. Everything on the phone is default out of the box.

I charge up early morning and it will last all day but I would consider myslef a light user. No video etc etc...few emails on wi-fi and maybe 10 calls for the day

Thanks

I think the reason for the varied battery life besided the subjective issue of how each person uses the device (not the same) is the radio in the GS3 S4 version is a battery hog in weak signal areas.

I notice that compared to the Razr in areas with good signal, the GS3 is far better, but in areas with weak signal, it is just as bad as the Razr (post ICS update). This seems to mainly be a 3G issue.

Are you using the charger that came with the phone or one from another phone?

My wife was charging her S3 with the iPhone brick and a generic cable and it would not fully charge the phone. Changed the wall brick to a belkin that is probably pushing more amps and it charges to 100%.

Heres a full day of battery use yesterday....

This is with LTE off all day and running on HSPA... and what I felt was pretty light to moderate (one call, some texting, some browsing) use.

To me this performance seems... not bad... but not great either. What does everyone else think? Seems like other people in this thread get a lot more battery life with a lot more screen time than I do.

This is the 2nd week I've had the phone, running apex launcher pro, beautiful widgets/weather...pretty frequent facebook use during the day on and off the internet for random things, lots of texts, no phone calls today..wifi has been on for the last 3 hours...I'm extremely happy with this battery for sure

here's mine, not good at all compared to previous phone (i4), with the i4 i would still have about 40-50% easily, same day to day use and locations

Well, the screen is over and inch larger. That has a lot to do with it. Those numbers look pretty standard to me. Plus you are using your phone a lot. Android system is at 50%. My android system is 9%.

You lie like a rug.

This is what I ended up with the other night. 'bout 2 1/2 hr screen time.
I'm on 3g only....wifi on most the time...

You lie like a rug.

And how am I a liar exactly? I noticed after posting the screenshot it doesn't show facebook which is weird because I am on and off it all day, on breaks at work and sometimes while working. Screenshot proves all that I just said why would I lie?

Does being on WiFi save your battery compared to the cell network? I have a 6GB plan so I usually don't bother with WiFi but a lot of people wwith long battery life seem use WiFi a lot.

Yes the radio wastes more battery on the network then on WiFi

Edit: since this is an lte phone the lte chip uses more battery and if you are not in a place with good lte signal the battery will even drain faster

Hit quote insted of modify sorry add to my previous post

Just installed a custom ROM yesterday, and while my battery was good, it's even better now. I'm not sure why maps is using so much battery, so it should be even better, but I've been having this problem for awhile.

Stock ROM rooted.
Used BBS to figure out which apps were the big drainers and froze any that were useless to me.

Why do folks try and compare their own use to other people and assume as the same standard? Too subjective. Battery use is relative to you (each person).

We should use this moment to appreciate that comparing battery use to others is in the same realm of reality as wrestling, Ghost Hunters (and all similar shows), alien abductions, and male "enhancement" products. It aint' real.

The truth IS out there though.....
