It is ok. It is still locked, it is just their way of marking it to show that it has been unlocked at some point.

On the evo 3d, getting s-off with the wire trick actually puts the bootloader back to "locked" status :)

ETA: Oops, for some reason I missed the V and thought this was in the Evo 4g section. So, did you do the wire trick yet?

Locking for the RUU will return to "relocked" and using the wire trick should return it to "locked". Unless you install the custom juopunutbear hboot, then it will read juopunutbear at the top.

thanks for that... next.. when i run ruu.exe.. it gets to the preparing setup screen and the loading bar gets almost to the end and then freezes... then i get the loading cursor like when an application is not responding... what do i do??

Hmm. It is not throwing up any kind of error message? The only times I have seen any sort of error is when it's the wrong RUU, etc. So if I'm understanding correctly, do you mean it doesn't even get to the point where it asks you to connect your phone?

I wonder the RUU got corrupted in the download process. Did your download source offer an MD5 checksum that you can verify?

Also are you running the VM RUU or a sprint RUU? Just curious.

it doesn't get to the point where i have to connect my phone... um... getting the ruu from the link in this post http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-a...evo-v-4g-ruu-flashing-guide-unroot-guide.html
no md5 there... can you take the .zip (using the alternate method in the post above) and send it to me??? will that work??

I can try. It'll take me 20-30 minutes to download the RUU though. Then you will have to download that file from me... So it could take awhile. If you are in a hurry you could try to pull the file while waiting.

I have never ran an RUU as a PG86IMG before but it does work.

Just something to note. If you use this method, place the file on the root of your sd card (not in any folders)

Make sure battery is at least 50% charged.

Also as soon as your phone boots up afterward, Immediately delete or rename the PG86IMG.zip on your sd card. Its presence will prevent you from booting into recovery.

Also, Can't you just flash the stock rom instead of running the RUU? Or is it required? I only ask because running the RUU means you have to re-root afterward..

Are you doing this because Juopunutbear requires you to be on the stock rom?

ETA: I forgot to ask. How big is the RUU on your computer? Is it 418 MB?

i tried to extract but it doesn't show up in the temp folder... i have downloaded it three times and same result each time...
Juopunutbear does require stock ruu... and this is mentioned in many guides here...
yes the file is 418 mb here...
i do have another idea on how to get the .zip but if it doesn't work.. ,your my only hope

Okay, I was just checking. When I decided to s-off, I was already on the stock rooted rom so I didn't have to do that step. I'm still not sure why the stock rom can't just be flashed like you would any other rom, but for the sake of following the tutorial we will just do it this way. Download is finishing now. I will see if I can extract it.

so i tried to use 7zip to look inside the exe but the .zip is just not to be found.. so its up to you

Well, I'm uploading to my dropbox now... It's slow.. At least a half hour left. Just FYI, the ROM.zip didn't show up at the top of my temp folder. I just searched the folder and found it. Try one more time just to see, otherwise, sit tight, it's going to be awhile. ;)

dude forget about it.. i messed up.. was able to get everything working.. sorry sorry sorry.. thanks so much for the support though

i was able to extract.... the relief when i finally saw the horrible virgin mobile boot animation... it says i need a superuser patch.. where do i get that???

not yet.. do i have to do custom recovery???

Yeah! You have to be rooted to do the wire trick! Running the RUU puts you back completely stock and unrooted... (That's why I thought It'd be easier to flash the stock rom.. Only takes a few minutes).

You have to unlock bootloader again (use same unlock code), flash your custom recovery (I prefer 4ext), Then flash SuperSU in place of a custom rom.

After that you will have a stock rooted rom, and then you can do the wire trick.

I think the confusion lies in the wording sometimes. Yes you were following a guide to get back to stock/unroot but the wire trick only requires you be on the stock rom. So for your purposes you didn't need to run the RUU. That just puts the stock rom on your phone and unroots you.

For future reference, Next time just flash your stock rom just like you would flash any rom by installing through recovery!

Flashing your stock rooted rom would be the exact same as adding SU to your 100% stock phone and making it a stock rooted rom :p

keep getting this.. not sure what it means...

so how do i flash diff h-boots and which one supports the most roms??

Congrats! So what was that error message? It's nice to share so others can benefit ;)

This is where I get out of my territory a little bit. I'm not familiar with roms for the evo v. Can you just flash evo 3d roms or do you have to follow the steps to turn your evo v into an Evo 3d?

As far as hboots it doesn't matter what hboot you have. It's the build that usually matters. There's not necessarily a better one. As of now I prefer GB so I am on the gb build 2.17. A lot of people prefer ics so they are on the ics 2.89 build.

It all depends on what you like. I wish I could suggest a few roms but im not very versed on evo v roms. I probably should be though :p

well.. first i kept getting Secondary backup FAILED!! but that was a newb mistake for not following directions... had to uninstall android comandeer, htc sync, etc.
the next one was it loaded to the juopunutbear arrow screen and wouldn't continue with s-off process... control bear fixed that itself...
the last one was after s-off... i got the reboot but it would only load to the juopunutbear arrow screen... i ran control bear and that led me to the hboot screen... but then every reboot just landed int he hboot screen... controlbear also told me to wipe sd (though i cant see how that effected things) but i did format it and the next power on got me all the way through...
doin the turn into 3d thread now... thank you so much Brian706 for getting me through all the questions and problems i had...

No problem dude! Happy to help! Glad you have it all going now! Let me know if you run into any problems.
