Root [S-OFF] Juopunutbear S-OFF -Beta Release

Whew, after a few failed tries, I went on to the IRC channel at 3 AM. Met a guy named kgs1992 and we figured out that I was supposed to pull of the paper clip after the first tap. After maybe my 10th try, I got it. It's 4 AM now... yeah, I need to quit doing this stuff late at night. xP
 
i used the link a few posts up that video is very helpful, i got the wire trick to work the second time i just used the paperclip/scotch tape as my conductor :D
 
hi all, im having a problem when after the reboot, when the phone displays the arrow icon. my computer only recognizes it as "mass usb storage" the strange thing is that it recognizes it as "MYHTC" at all other times. the only time it dosent is when that logo is up. any ideas?

Did you uninstall HTCsync from your computer as per the directions?
 
So i got everything setup to do the wire trick, uninstalled htcsync and downloaded Juopunutbear for evo v VM. The first times i ran it got stuck at backup for an hour each time... wasn't sure how long backup would take but it was an empty spare sd card, so i figured that was enough time. Tried again this morning and said backup was successful but then hung at waiting for device to settle...I let that sit for another hour before i gave up... i cancelled it and was going to take a break, but now phone stays at white htc screen and wont boot... never even got to try the part i was stressing about. So im stuck. It still connects to pc...I can adb into bootloader and can run recovery... tried wiping data, reinstalling stock rom , facory reset...always ends up at white htc screen. I left battery out for an hour and let it sit at white screen for about the same amount of time...Ive been searching for answers and have run out of ideas. If anybody can help it would be most appreciated.
 
ok so somehow it let me back in and wanted the wire trick so i did it... and the bootloader says soff, but control bear tries to boot into ruu mode and gets stuck at a black htc screen...

You will need to reformat external sdcard manually!!

oh yeah and the sd card...iwas using a spare for the wire trick but after it wasnt booting i put my good one in to restore a backup. i forgot it was still in there when i reran control bear. of course thats when it decided to go to the wire trick stage. even though i didn't do it that time it wiped my card and formatted it at half capacity...i'm on a roll tonight :)
 
it always something stupid... i was plugged into a usb 3.0 port... wow. those guys on the irc channel are awesome btw... got me back up and running

I just used a tie wrap from a loaf of bread. Worked great on the first shot.

using smartflash allows you to flash certain roms like midnight, mobster without having to be s-off, but s-off allows you to flash MOST evo 3d roms and all evo v Roms, change hboot, change PRI and PRL, change your radio version, i did s-OFF last week and im happy i did im running midnight and my battery never seems to drop below 98% until 2 hours after unplugged :D
 
easy to get s off for htc evo v if you use paper clip with taped up i used midnight rom and must use outer hole i first used inner hole with paper clip to metal top of disk and juopunutbear program got stuck you then click off program and start again with adminster let run tells you no s off error now you run program again but be ready its going tell to do wire trick real quick but i used the outer hole with more metal exposed what a joke its so dam easy its not even worth looking for any other way to get s off
 
Finally did the wire trick the other night. Used a complete coax cable with the copper sticking out haha. Got it on the first try but I didn't have the driver so control bear didn't finish. Ended up on the Juniper (SP) green boot screen, plugged it in, ran control bear and it completed.

Downloading HTC Mobster right now. Wire trick is super simple long as it completes.

someone suggested to use the twist tie off a loaf of bread, if ou cant find a wire or paper clip i suggest that too, got s-off on my first try, i just kept tapping it against the memory card holder the whole time it kept saying "do wire trick now" big thanks to the creator of this software and the person who discovered about the wire trick :D
 
it was a bit of a pain but it works.. of course it has been said but for searchers out there .. use an old 2g card not your best card also backup on the best card. it took me a couple go rounds but it took. also paper clip worked better for me rather then a cord
 
When I run control bear I get "The system cannot find the path specified" as the very first message. Then it says "connecting to device... searching device... the system cannot find the path specified" then "connect device and install drivers". I did the adb/fastboot test (the optional step 10 on unlimited.io) so I thought my drivers were ok. I uninstalled htc sync too. What am I doing wrong?

My guess is I do it after step6 after recovery.img is installed (before flashing the ODEX shooter stock rom) but then it feels like your phone isnt really rooted until you flash that first ROM (after step7), am I correct?

Do not use the stock rom. The wire trick comes after all the steps above. Complete all those steps, flash a custom rom(harmonia, midnight, mobster), make a backup. After everything is settled in, then you begin the process for s-off.

You do not do the wire trick to unlock your bootloader. It is only used for s-off. The thread above is a thread describing how to unlock the bootloader.
