Welcome to moonshine S-OFF. Enjoy.

Important windows notes:

1.) make sure htc sync is uninstalled
2.) make sure adb and fastboot drivers are working
3.) make sure htc sync is uninstalled
4.) if you are having problems with fastboot, try a usb 2.0 port.
5.) make sure htc sync is uninstalled
6.) make sure other programs that interfere with and fastboot are uninstalled (PDANet, Kies, etc.)
7.) make sure htc sync is uninstalled
8.) if you use a third party firewall, be sure to grant access to distiller.exe as it checks for updates
9.) MAKE SURE HTC SYNC IS UNINSTALLED
10.) YOU MUST UNZIP THE ARCHIVE BEFORE RUNNING DISTILLER. DO NOT JUST TRY TO RUN IT FROM THE ARCHIVE.

i read thru the entire thread and the usb 2.0 is important. do not use a 3.0 port.

you also need to be unlocked already and have a custom recovery(twrp) as well.

enjoy:)

They are root methods, so lets get them in there. :)

If you need any assistance getting these added, let me know. :)

On the other hand....
Might not be a bad idea to get EM to for you to get a new post added under the OP for the new root methods. Maybe.

Does the OP have enough room to add them in?

not sure if the op has anymore room or not. i can streamline some things maybe this weekend.......if anything i can always use the second post for it.

Just wanted to jump in and say that I used the moonshine version to root two days ago and as long as you are unlocked and have twrp installed it works fantastic. Just make sure you follow the instructions to a t. Thanks

did you do the linux version or windows, out of curiosity?

and by the way congrats and wlecome to the darkside;):D

Does HTC BMP USB Driver also need to be uninstalled as well? After downloading the Moonshine ZIP should it be extracted to the C:\Android folder or can it just be extracted to a new empty folder on the desktop for it to work properly?

Also will Moonshine work with the current version of Viper ROM

Kind of strange...Moonshine worked for me, I am S-OFF now...but when my phone rebooted all I get now is a White screen with my notification bar at the top. I can get into all the settings by pulling the notification bar down, but cant get to my home screen or apps.

Just did a clean install of the current Viper ROM and it is working fine now. Does anyone know if you can use the Sprint WIFI app for tethering on this current version of Viper without Sprint knowing or do you have to use the other WIFI app?

they both work the same way. there is no real way to hide it. if they see an unsual amount of data then they might investigate. but i have not really heard of anyone getting the boot just from tethering......but just be cautious is all.

Seems like the Sprint WIFI app works better than the other WIFI app that comes with the Viper ROM...it just seems easier to use.

I just don't want to get a huge charge in a future bill from from Sprint.

the sprint version is not really sprint. the devs just call it that because it is integrated within the system partition. it is just an app that is not tied directly to sprint. either way i believe that sprint will still be able to see data useage. but usually they are not looking for it so as long as it does not seem to high then you should be fine. just keep in mind that the higher amount of data used could send a red flag and you could get the boot even with the wifi tether app as well.

I'm having problems getting moonshine to work for me.

I got the unlocked method to work flawlessly, but getting moonshine to work like it should...is what i need assistance with.

Okay, htc sync is uninstalled ... fastboot is disabled ... developer option \ usb debugging is checked. What else am i missing here?

I'm in fastboot ... run distiller ... screen comes asking to proceed "yes or no". I type "yes" and hit enter... nada!

what happen is ... the yes\no keeps repeating itself.

Can someone help me to get this DONE! :)

did you unzip the archive? are you using usb 2.0? do you have adb setup correctly?

not sure what you mean about yes/no's repeating? does it just keep asking you? are there any errors?

How do you know what usb you have? I am not good at this rooting thing. :D

Yes, I unzipped the archive. Adb is set up correctly...that is how i got the unlocked code easily.

After typing "yes," ... and then enter...nothing happen.

Do i need to hold down power + volume down button to go into fastboot?

usb 3.0 will usually have a blue color port. if you look inside the usb port of your pc or laptop and you see blue then that is 3.0. if it is black then it is 2.0.

to see if you have the correct fastboot drivers
1. connect the phone to your pc
2. power off then boot into the bootloader.
3. select fastboot from the bootloader menu

it should change to fastboot usb. if it does not then something went wrong.....and you might have the incorrect drivers.

if it does change then that is not the problem and it is something else.

This is the same computer i got moonshine to work ... so i don't know why I'm not able to get this done.

Yes, I'm able to get fastboot usb. Question: Do i need to install twrp to get this done?

. (1) connect the phone to your pc
2. power off then boot into the bootloader.
3. select fastboot from the bootloader menu
Do i need to be in fastboot usb to get the process going/done?

Yes, I'm able to get fastboot usb. Question: Do i need to install twrp to get this done?

it is not part of the prerequisite.....so i do not think so.

what is your hboot?

no, but fastboot needs to be disabled with your phone's settings.
Fastboot is disabled.

I had this up and running so easy the first time. I click on distilled... screen comes up with information ... i then type in "yes," and nothing happens..except the same question keep repeating itself. It won't even allow me to copy the message.
