Root [S-OFF] Moonshine S-OFF for 3.16.651.3

ok this is why......you need to be on an earlier firmware to use moonshine.

you have the 3.17 firmware so your only option is to use rumrunner.

i need to add this bit of info to the guide when i get a chance....sorry about that.
Okay.

Thanks!

I hope rumrunner is as easy as moonshine. :)

Still no show. :(

Something is definitely wrong. I must be doing something wrong, or most likely leaving something out.

The same thing is happening ... after typing yes, and click enter...nothing happens.

I'm sure I'm missing something.

hmmmm not sure what is up, maybe give it a break and come back to rumrunner and try again.....make sure that you satisfy all that is required before running it.

I managed somehow to get TWRP installed...can i root from here? On the top it says tampered...

Yes, it says unlocked and above that is tampered.

It also say ... S-On. I tried another laptop, and I'm not able to get it done either.

Same thing happens — when I typed in "yes" to proceed...it keeps saying to type "yes or no" ...

I'm S-On. But I'm gonna make it work for me. I wish I was S-Off, though. ;)

Question: how do I get rid of the word 'tampered' just above unlocked? I thought I read somewhere a post that Cap had responded to a member telling them how to update hbooot to get this done. But for the like of me ... I cannot find the post. Anyone knows how this works?

What are the limitations on not being S-Off? And is there any other "rooting" method of getting S-Off -- because clearly the method moonshine and runrummer don't seem to be working for me.

Here are the steps I followed:

1) Adb and fastboot are inside C:/sdk-tools folder
2) I downloaded the universal file needed - (in this case rumrunner) - because I'm on basband version 3.7
3) HTC Sync is uninstalled
4) Fastboot is unchecked
5) Usb debugging is turned on
6) Device is in fastboot mode
7) I then follow instructions on how to get s-off .... But when I typed in "yes" to proceed ... nothing happens. What am I missing here? Can somebody please tell me. :banghead:

ok first you want rumrunner moonshine will not work for your firmware.

second did you get recovery? are you on a stock rom? you might want to flash to a 3.17 stock rooted rom and try rumrunner again.

the main limitations is that you can't flash firmware if and when the evo lte gets another update. it used to be harder due to the fact that you can't flash a kernel with s-on, but most of the devs have figured out a way now so it is not as big of a deal as it used to. with s-off you can also downgrade your firmware as well.

Okay ... Where can I find a stock rooted 3.17 Rom? And yes, I have Twrp installed.

I try flashing Cap Rom earlier...it flashed but didn't load properly — I think it is because I download the Rom using my phone browser. I will use my laptop to get this done.

I need to be S-Off. :)

Thanks for the support.

Not sure what the issue is, I'm trying to get my wife's phone S-OFF but can't seem to get past the "Waiting for ADB" step after starting the distiller.

Keeps telling me to fix ADB connection...but I know it works since I used it on my phone and just last week also updated to the new Android and Viper ROM.

what is your wife's specs? what firmware is it on?

She is still on 3.16 and running Viper, could the issue be that I need to install a stock ROM first?

do you have a nandroid backup before you flashed viper?

if not (but you should have ;)) then it is under Captain Throwback's stock rooted roms in the shipped roms section of http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte-all-things-root/614073-list-utilities-roms-kernels.html

Okay thanks! For some reason I don't remember updating the firmware on my wife's phone...but she is running Viper 3.16, is it even possible to run that ROM if the firmware wasn't updated during 3.15? If so maybe I need to go back and do that first?

I can never remember, which is better Odex or Deodex?

wait was is your radio, baseband right now? it needs to be firmware and not software.....you need to make sure that you have firmware that is based on 3.16 software update.

Will have to check later on and get back to you...wife is at work along with her phone.

just keep in mind that the phone should have the 3.16 stock rom (odexed is the one i would use) and it needs to be on the 3.16 firmware as well in order for moonshine to work.
