Just happened to spot this in unanswered threads. I don't own this phone but I know a bunch of the Rezound guys have used this method. Might be worth checking their root forum to see if there's any tips/tricks they may have stumbled on for best results? Just a thought. Good luck!

none...because all the wire trick does is cause a engineering type boot. i did it and couldn't get timing right and was able to recover from it easily. I tried at least 50 times. other people have reported getting it on first shot

So as long as I wear an anti-static wrist strap to ground myself I should be good? My not so techy friend wants me to root his phone
It took me 5 tries at first to get it on my own phone. Turns out that I wasn't making contact with the other side the first few tries. Once I realized that, I got it on the first try on my friends phone. It works great. Keep in mind that if you do this, if anyone used HTCDev to unlock your bootloader, it will say it's locked but it really isn't after getting S-off

That's why on any HTC devices that I have unlocked I unlock the bootloader with HTCDev first then get s-off. Just me being anal, if you have s- off there is no longer any reason for you to unlock the bootloader.

Id say your ok with doing that but id also say make the wire insulated just in case since they put emphasis on that part

So I finally completed the wire-trick, was sweating a bit as it didnt work the first four times. I originally had unlock and root access after doing the HTC dev method. The Bootloader now shows S-OFF but shows that the device is locked. I originally did the unlock method using HTC DEV when I first got the phone.
I read a few of the posts and just wanted to confirm if my device is still actually unlocked? I verified I have root access through a root checker app. I just wanted to make sure I'm good to go as far as installing any roms, kernals, radios, etc without any issues because it shows its locked now. Here is my bootloader screenprint:

Do you think Im good to go or do I need to find a way to unlock again? I went to the HTC dev website and they said that with my software version there may be an issue with unlocking and that I should do an OTA update. The last time i tried one of their official OTA updates months ago it froze my phone so Im a little leery about going the HTCdev route if I dont have to. Thanks for your feedback -Alan

once your s-off your good to go bro..at least that's what i have gathered from more experienced htc users in tnis community..
but if you really wanna..you can go back through the unlock procedure through htcdev all over again..im pretty sure its completely unnecessary..
but i too re unlocked mine as well..the s-off procedure relocks your bootloader in the process..so not needed but if you want just run back through the process and unlock it again and you will be good

How'd you do that. My SD card was fine after.
I don't know how I did it. I only did the s-off trick twice and the second time it worked, but when I booted my SD card showed up saying it was blank... so yeah not what I needed, lol.
They do warn you to back it up, and tbh any modding/rooting/romming/shorting out your phone on purpose should be backed up.

I backed mine up but it didn't erase it. Although I did get s-off on the first try.
It took me a few tries because I did it at like 3am, was so tired.
I got scared because it kept "sobering up"; aka failing. and there was no turning back, the phone wouldnt go back into a regular boot without completing the procedure.
One thing is KEY. You HAVE to TAP the wire once on the metal, WAIT, and then hold it to the metal. that was my success. I tried to hold it, tap it a bunch, but what I just said was 100%.
Make sure you DO NOT use an un-insulated wire, and do not touch the connections; you risk damage. I wound up using a paper-clip wrapped in a good amount of electrical tape. I think its better than a wire because a paperclip is pliable and is able to be set in place, you can bend it so you never have to touch anything but the middle where the tape is.

you can use any tape or even rubberbands, i personally used scotch tape because i couldnt find one of my 500 rolls of electrical tape....which i found RIGHT after i finished doing it with scotch tape.
hey guys.
i managed to get s-off but now my volume down key doesnt work
is there any way to fix it? i still get the little click but nothing happens
Try taking off the back case and pushing the button, or wiggling the button thats there and trying. I haven't heard of anything shorting or any electronic abnormalities unless you used the inner hole instead of the outter one when doing the wire trick.
I have heard of the buttons underneath the back plate getting stuck or pushed funny if you slide the case on/off a certain way.

If you have s-off then there really isn't a need to unlock the bootloader. However if you're anal you don't have to do the whole htcdev thing all over again. You're unlock token is tied to your phone and can be used again. Just fastboot and enter:
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin

Good to know..I already knew it was unnecessary to unlock boot once you achieve s-off..but didn't know you could re use the same token output..learn something new every day..
