Root S-OFF with Alpharev problem

Finally decided to get around to doing S-OFF, have tried to, but the stumbling block seems to be after step 1, the phone is rebooted, but for step two, Alpharev just says the device isn't found and "waiting for bootloader". It just waits forever, so I can't get beyond that point.

I have installed the Fastboot driver, USB port is a direct one on the motherboard, using original cable, there are no connectivity problems normally, am using a stock rooted ROM with no data2sd.

which stock rom are you using?
what is your hboot version?
how are you doing alpharev? via CD or virtual?
if virtual which virtual client are you using?

1.Pre-rooted stock Froyo (2.29.405.5)
2. 0.80.0000
3. CD

thats a really realy early hboot
im not even sure if that hboot is supported by alpharev

thing i dont get though is that you mention fastboot drivers, you dont need them if you are booting from CD as its using minilinux

It is, I've seen down to .75 as well as .80

Yes, superfluous information, but do you also mean not needed afterwards when making updates (once S-OFF)?

it will be needed when making modifications within windows i was just meaning that it was not needed for the alpharev procedure .
i dont know what the answer is, cd version should work pretty flawlessly and as it reboots the phone we know that it can initially see the device. you could try pulling the device and reconnecting it while in fastboot stage

Thanks, I did actually try that the first time I tried it (originally with MCR9 ROM), reconnected immediately and Alpharev displayed that it was now on step 3 and with all the usual warnings about not to disconnect.
I left it for ages, but nothing was happening, the phone was still in bootloader mode and responsive to keypresses, so I reasoned that it actually wasn't actually sending anything to the phone, no flashing was occurring. So I just disconnected, went to recovery and did a Nandroid restore. All fine and working of course, but still S-ON of course.

I thought perhaps the problem was caused because the MCR9 ROM I was using was A2SD+, hence trying the rooted stock as mentioned, but, as mentioned, the same occurred with that.
