S-Voice: Anyone actually using this?

Used to have OnStar on my truck. Bloody thing never understood the difference between 'call' and 'store' with my English accent. Had to get the wife to store all my numbers on it.

Been wary of voice control stuff ever since...

I use it to set alarms when I am taking a quick nap or something. It's quick and easy that way. I also use it on occasion to make a call since I have first and last name for all my contacts it makes it much easier. Other than that I don't use it. A google search is just as good for info

i messed with it for a bit one night asking it any stupid questions i could think of...then last night i used it for real to set an alarm and that worked well...its just not good enough, or fast enough to use it consistently...bit its nice when driving (if it works right lol)

It seems that it's at its most useful when driving, and I can appreciate that.

If I had a car I would probably use it. But I don't, so I don't.

I've attempted to use S-Voice in real-world situations, but cannot seem to feel it is NOT ready for prime time yet...

Maybe i'm doing something incorrect, but i see big hesitations, no understanding and general awkwardness..

thanks

nope.

:D

I think both Siri and S-Voice are silly......

I watch my Mom and Dad speaking slowly and loudly into their iPhones "Siri....BLAH BLAH BLAH" and they usually do it 2 or 3 times before they get their desired result, and I think they look so silly doing it.

I can see using voice commands for simple things like dialing but this whole "control everything by voice" isn't necessary in my opinion, at least not at its current effectiveness level. Apple just tells everyone that this is a must-have thing, and so people use it even when it doesn't work THAT WELL.

I started to read the whole thread but got hung up here...

I have jellybean on my GNex and I have had to do 1 voice command twice because I was the one mumbling...

Trust me, its amazing. Its soooo fast you'll do a "no way". Google did this one right, you'll see!

On topic: no. S Voice is crummy

I am having issues using S Voice for my new Samsung Galaxy 3s. Most times it wont wake up when i tell it to.. or it wont hear what i am saying..can anyone give me any tips and/or tricks to making my s voice run a little smoother.. not sure if i am just not using it right or what...

I haven't disabled it, but I have taken away the start up command (saves battery) and the double home-button press; when you press home, the phone hesitates a moment, expecting the double press. Get rid of that, and the home button works much faster.

Haven't tried it yet but can you text people using S-Voice? I have a Moto BT headset and use that Motorola app which lets you respond and/or dictate text messages.
Yes; I use it whilst driving. Additionally, when you have car mode on, it'll read received texts to you.

I tried sending e-mail with it but it only responded, "unable to send email" but I was having network issues a the time. Has anyone sent e-mail with it?

The only dead on experience I found with S-voice was dialing. 9.9 times out of 10 it gets it right on the first time. Couple that with a wake up command and you got yourself an awesome hands-free feature which is very useful when driving.

Except it doesn't actually wake up the phone; while you can set it up to unlock the phone and launch svoice, you have to physically touch the phone to wake from sleep/standby, which makes it less useful.

As you say, dialer does work pretty well tho, as does dictating text.

Hated s-voice....I went ahead and disabled it. If you're rooted Google Now search works great. Superior voice search.

its not bad however i use the speech to text dictation within the keyboard itself. my biggest pain in the ass is that if i so as much pause for half a second, s-voice and siri assume im finished talking and begin processing! wtf?

I just installed Google Now on my S3 and have it launching when double-clicking the home button instead of S-Voice. Very cool!

My wife has Siri. Think I'll do a comparison. :-)

how did you map the double tap of home button to bring up Google Voice?

I use Nova Launcher to designate the home button (one press) for the Google Voice search, but didn't know you could remap the double press.

Google Now on my Nexus 7 is a lot better than S voice on my S3. Not that i'd really use either in my day to day life.

Isn't Google now coming to our S3's when we get Jelly bean?

I seen a commercial for samsung galaxy S3 and s voice where all you have to do is say "reject" when your phone rings and it rejects the phone call... i have tried it and cant seem to get that to work.. how do you do that ??:mad:

IMO, Samsung should sink this and allocate the resources to development of better low signal management of radios. Too much power draw in low signal areas, even compared to other devices like RAZR and Rezound.

The GS3 however kicks all their butts in medium to good signal areas.

I'd like to use it in my car. You can just say "play <song title>" and it will find it. But I am having a problem with it responding to my voice. Not sure if it's because I'm streaming the music to a bluetooth receiver. I just haven't investigated enough.

Ghost this is what is called "End of Speech Timeout" This is a standard in Voice Reco. At some point in time during the speech the app needs to wrapper the captured voice and pass it through a Voice Reco engine. A result is then passed back to use for your dictation. It is slightly different for what is called Natural Language vs Directed Dialog. But similar enough.

All of this is done as something called "Speaker Independent Voice Recognition". This means you did not have to train the device to understand you as you may have in the past.
