Help S2 keeps rebooting

Thanks to fixitall for the detailed comments. I used to have the uncommanded power down or reboot problem and contributed comments to this thread some time ago. Then ICS came along and the problems disappeared - opposite to what others have reported. Six months or so without any probs in that respect. The phone did power down last Monday without reason but I'm hoping this was a one off.
BUT I have been experiencing the sudden battery drains and hot phone problem fixitall describes. I have not been able to pin it to any particular app either. I am now lucky to get a full day out of the phone with relatively light use.
Very frustrating and doesn't inspire confidence in Android or the phone. Not sure whther to blame the phone or OS (or an app).

Hi All,

A short update on my post of two days ago.....

I was experiencing one to two hang-ups (phone seems dead) a day. It reminded me of its behavior just after the first ICS upgrade. So I tried the same solution that worked back then: power down and remove the battery for a couple of minutes.

My first (careful) conclusion: it worked. The behavior is back to normal. The first 24 hours no 'freeze'. Battery use 42%, 1,5 hour of GPS use, 2 phone calls of 15 minutes, internet browsing, e-mail checking.

So, as staed before in my previous post, I consider this very nice behavior. When it works, ICS performs very well.

I will keep you all updated on how long this will last.

I'm having a similar problem with my S2. I'll be running an app, doesn't matter which one (Maps, Play Store, Reddit Is Fun...) and my phone shuts down. Upon reboot, it says the battery is critically low, even if there was plenty of charge before.

I just tried a factory reset and that didn't help at all. I'm going to charge it to full, remove the battery, wait for a couple minutes then replace it, and see what happens.

EDIT: Nope, didn't work either. I finally tried a hard reset from Recovery mode... phone keeps crashing.

Hi All,

As promised, an update to my previous posts, half a week ago.

My phone is still running strong after removing and reinstalling the battery.
No more strange behavior, no more freezing, no more critically low batteries without reason.

So until now, almost 4 days without a problem. I will keep my fingers crossed. :D

Hi all,

Well, I guess it was to good to be true. Nov 7, 0.30 AM my phone froze again. Or at least according to JuicePlotter, nothing was logged anymore. Battery level was at 65% when logging stopped and this morning my phone would not turn on anymore. After connecting a charger, it was completely depleted (5%).

So the bug is back:mad:

Taking out the battery seems to keep it at bay for almost a week. Very strange behavior. Does anybody know if this is registered at Samsung or Android development? Or in other words, where do I register such a bug so someone will look into it?

hi guys,
new here but same thing happening..

had my samsung s2 for a yr or so now, and been experiencing random hot flushes and reboots pretty much the whole time.. from gingerbread to ICS, sometimes it's fine and it wont reboot (or i won't notice) for a week or so, other times, reboot loop several times a day... sometimes it stops after a couple of reboots, other times it just reboots and reboots till i turn it off.. even then, it continues sometimes when i eventually turn it back on..

this hot, reboot process drains the battery life like nothing else too, although, i've noticed it giving false battery readings where the nearly drained battery has 'gained' its life back once the reboot loop ends.. ie it was down to 2% once the loops stopped and my phone stayed on, and the the 2% slowly went back up to 20% or so..

cannot figure out which apps, if any, are causing it.. i could list many that i've uninstalled and still experienced the problem.

a couple of things i have noticed... the cpu is generally running at 1200mhz or close to when it happens, and for no reason.. ie, sitting on a desk not being used or charged..

i've also noticed that occasionally 'youtube' app, which is a system app with mine through vodafone, is occasionally running in the background, for no reason.. not sure if it's related or not.

sure is frustrating, but i'm definitely leaning towards hardware/firmware/system related rather than app..

ah yeah weird.. same has happened here before.. it's like its a very 'soft' reset sometimes if that makes sense..

if i never hear the vodafone splash screen sound ever again, i'd be happy ..

I was having the same problem as everyone else, I coudn't fix so I took into Bell and one of the sales guys just reinstalled the software and it fixed the entire problem! Its a software issue so it can't be fixed with anything else but reinstalling the phone software. Hope this saves everyone some grief.
