S2 Root help

rimare

Newbie
Hello all new to the site here. Im fairly computer savy and have been reading a bit about rooting my phone.

Model: Samsung Galaxy S2
Carrier: Boost Mobile
Android V: 4.0.4
Kernel V: 3.0.15-981989 ( SE.INFRE SEP-135#3)

From the research Ive been doing shows I need Samsung Kries, Odin and a unsecure kernel?

Im a little unsure about the kernel piece to get and in doing the root how it would effect my service with Boost Mobile. I'm sure not at all or nothing to crazy that can't be worked about or fixed. So from this I'm hoping to be pointed in the direction of a kernel and or a step by step guide out there.

Thank you so much,

Rimare

Welcome to the forums..

OK read our root guide. I'm a little busy right now but I'll give u a quick rundown...

Most of the process is only getting your computer to recognize your phone so u can use Odin to flash a kernel that has a custom recovery in it. Once that's done and your in recovery hit install from zip and locate the super user zip that u are going to download to your phone before u start this process. Once found click on it and hit yes...

Once it flashes it hit reboot options then reboot phone.... And your now rooted. Its really simple.

But read the root guide and follow instructions!!!

When u click to download the agat kernel you are going to want the one that says agat0.6.8

Download the tar and zip version... U will use the tar version in Odin and the zip just always leave on your SD card. U Dont need it now but its good to keep on the SD card... Let us know how it goes and ask for help if your unsure although u will always be unsure on your first time. Just follow directions and u will be fine:D

Also I seen u were in the galaxy prevail section looking to root. If u downloaded anything from there please delete it now! BC it is not meant for this phone and can damage your phone if u flash it.. Then follow what I just said in the post above

Cool I will download from guide here. One thing if a F it up can that be fixxed.. and the back up and restore on the phones looks to only back up apps and stuff like that not the core of the phone

Yes if u were to mess up it can be fixed. I'll be checking in so just post if u need help.
However u will not mess up. You can backup the entire phone once your rooted.

please consult with your device manufacturer for assistance getting this device installed.

USB Composite Device ( Ready to use )
SPH-D710BST ( Ready to use )
47410eb01852c79 ( No driver found )
Samsung_Android ( No driver found )

From the forum
*Got all that? Good. Plug your phone into your PC and make sure that the drivers are all installed and that your PC can recognize your phone.*

I can see the device in my computer its called SPH-D710BST, Is this ok? Or do i need drivers for he last to I listed there?

It should install them all I believe. Sometimes it takes awhile.. Unplug then plug in again and check the bottom right hand corner for it to be installing the other drivers...did u turn on USB debugging in settings ?

Open kies and see if it helps install the drivers...if it does then good. If it doesn't then continue the guide and see if Odin recognises your phone. If the box turns yellow the you good. If it doesn't then hold the power button to shutdown the phone . and try to Get the other drivers some more

Ok so im stuck at******

Choose mount usb storage and move the superuser binary over to the sd card. Then go to the main menu of the recovery, select install zip, then install from sd card (external) and select the super user binary zip file and flash it. This will install superuser on your device. Then reboot like normal.

I'm not sure where Im suppose to see MOUNT USB STORAGE? On my pc? or on the phone?

i think that may be written wrong...

what you want to do is put the superuser zip on your sdcard while on a PC or something (you can also do this by just downloading directly on phone)

then, go to install zip from sd card (internal or external, wherever you put it) and browse to the superuser zip and select it.

hope that helps

ok so i put the Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed onto my Sd card and when into the card from the phone the file called superuser-3.1.1-arm-sig, when clicks tells me No application can perform this action.

Hold up!!!! Stop there. U already have the recovery. Your done with the computer. Just reboot your phone and come back to the root guide on your phone. download the superuser zip on your phone.

When done turn your phone off... Now hold in the power button and volume up(not down) let go about 2 second after the galaxys2 pops up. And it will be in recovery..

Now hit install from zip. Then choose from SD then scroll down and find downloads then click it now click superuser zip. And tell it to flash it. Once complete. Hit reboot menu. Then boot system and u are now rooted....

Get used to recovery because it a rooters best friend!!!

so when i turn it on i get the yellow triangle then it goes to my normal screen, is this recovery?

No. U need to get the timing right to get into recovery. Hold power and volume up just a little longer. If u hold it too long it will just turn the phone off.

ok i made it into the recovery screen followed the post to this * Choose mount usb storage at the end the option is unmount which I didnt see in the post. then it goes to* say*move the superuser binary over to the sd card. Then go to the main menu of the recovery, select install zip, then install from sd card (external) and select the super user binary zip file and flash it. This will install superuser on your device. Then reboot like normal.*
