Help S2 stealing ip addresses!

GTA1979

Lurker
Hi,

First of all I have searched and googled and have found no solution, so terribly sorry if I am asking a common question. I honestly spent a couple of hours googling around and trying to fix this.

The problem is that my s2 seems to ignore the static ip settings I have put in for it.

My girlfriend has a MacBook Pro which for some reason doesn't get along well with our fritzbox router. I solved this problem by using a different DNS setting (213.191.92.87) and by setting up static ip addresses on my other (linux mint) machines, using the same DNS setting.

I gave my girlfriend my old Galaxy 3, which is set up with the above settings and works fine.

However, my s2 doesn't like using the settings I have put in and takes whatever ip address it damn well wants, usually one that is already in use, interrupting the internet connection on whichever machine has been assigned that particular ip address.

At the moment the settings look like this:

Advanced
wifi sleep policy
Mac address
Proxy
Port
IP address
192.168.1.52

IP settings
Use static ip tick!
IP address
192.168.1.54
Gateway
192.168.1.1
Netmask
255.255.255.0
DNS 1
213.191.92.87
DNS 2

Thanks in advance for any help

As you're assigning static IPs to all devices on the LAN, have you disabled the DHCP server in the router so that it doesn't offer leases to connected devices?

Hi,

Since doing that it seems to work. My main computer lost its connection today but it connected again right away. Thanks for your help!
