S4 better than note 2?

The manufacturers are always improving the specs with every new phone release, but when your Note 2 is as close to perfection as mine is, I am not in a hurry to give it up for the unknown glitches that some new phone releases come with.

2 questions that weren't addressed at the launch event, battery endurance compared to N2, how much legible information on the screen compared to N2. Some more things important to me personally. With an app called Androrec I can record phone conversations. I use the Hyperian 6200 mah battery for field trips. Most likely no phone with stock battery comes close.

I like and use the N2's built in stylus but if a stand alone stylus would work on another phone I could live wtihout the N2 stylus. A bit smaller phone would be nice but I'm getting along with the N2. May be the S4 is faster but the N2 has all the speed I need right now. Then there is the cost. I doubt the S4 is so superior that I would part with hundreds of dollars to own it now.

The S4 has some very cool features but it doesn't beat the N2 for my purposes until there is an extended battery and phone call recording is verified.
 
there are articles on the web stating that Samsung has already came out and stated that almost all the new technology that the G4 will have will come to the Sammsung galaxy 3 and Note 2.

This is simply how it goes. Then once the s4 is out, the note 3 will be on its way to outdo the s4. Its the way of technology.

But from what I gather, most are in absolute love with their n2s and are more than content.

I do not think there is enough of spec jump to jump to the s4. If you have the disposable income, and have to have the newest thing, and want a slightly smaller phone then go for it.
 
Specs are better because its newer!

Differentiators:
S4 loads of new features - some a bit gimmicky and some quite useful

N2 - S Pen and large screen

Main difference - screen size. If you want a smaller device go for S4.

Don't forget N2 and S3 will get SOME of the updates. Personally I can't wait to link it to my Samsung ES8000 TV and play Real Racing on it! This is the best upgrade for me along with the eye tracking scrolling.
 
Note 2 is the best large phone among Samsung, and from the specs of S4 , it seems better than Note 2 and also, the S4 also includes many awesome smart features and two quad-core processor that really attract people's attention.

But for performace, maybe we need to wait for the release of S4.

The Exynos dual-quad core will be the international version. The North American version will get the Snapdragon quad core with a 1.9GHz speed bump from what I'm hearing. Again, something to do with LTE here in North America.

'Better' depends on the person viewing it. Some will look at the specs, yawn and go elsewhere. Others will drool over it. Matter of personal tastes/preferences and what their perception of better is.
 
I have not seen a 1080p screen irl yet so cant comment. I am very very very happy with my N2 and would certainly not change to a S4 for a few more megapixels on the camera and some other tricks.

The N4 will be next phone though due to my pesky 2 year constract.
 
There's no denying it, the S4 specs are amazing.

Nevertheless, I would not even consider swapping my Note 2 for one, even if there was no cost involved.

Smaller screen and no S-Pen!? No chance! I know, I know, we now have "air view for fingers" on the S4, however...

Fingers are never as precise as my S-Pen allows.

Fingers do not glide seamlessly across the screen even in hot conditions.

Fingers make my screen grubby whereas the S-Pen doesn't.

I don't have a button on my finger that allows secondary functions.

Hell, unless Samsung manages to create something truly magical in the Note 3 I probably won't even see a need to upgrade to that when it arrives. This is the first phone I've had in about 6 years that I'm not looking at the next upgrade within six months. Samsung is calling the S4 a 'Life Companion'... I already found mine, and its called the Galaxy Note 2.

Yea nice post. I am not sure if I have ever found a phone that meets all my needs and wants like the note 2 can. The S pen is hands down the best stylus on a mobile device. I am thinking of buying the nexus 4 to go along side the note 2, and that is only to get my fix for the latest and greatest from Google. That may be the only thing this phone does not have is fast updates from Google. Loving this phone phablet
 
For me the new GS4 has a couple of new sensors (temperatures and humidity) that I could use but other wise I'll wait and see if they add them to the new GN3 that is already rumored to be 5.9" in size (Android Authority).:D
Then the other question would be is price??????

Call me impractical, but I'm always going to upgrade every year. In theory, that would mean jumping to the Note3. However, I can't really go any bigger than the Note 2, and if the next Note is physically larger, I will probably upgrade to the S4. If they can put a 5.8" screen without making the Note 3 any wider or taller and actually thinner (which is what they accomplished with the S4 over the S3), then that will be my next phone.
 
The only thing that would attract me to the S4 over the Note 2 is the 1080p screen, thing is I am not willing to make the sacrifice of moving to a smaller screen, so I'm not even considering the S4 at this point.

My next upgrade will most likely be the Note 3, as long as it stays roughly the same size or gets only a little bigger. If the Note 3 ends up being TOO big then I'm not sure what I will do.
 
Samsung said that they're going to port all of the S4-specific software to the S3 and Note2.

I'll be going to the Note 2 next week.
 
Here we are a month later for this thread and the S4 is now out. I saw one today at my local AT&T store and handled it for a while. I just started service with ATT a week ago and got the Note 2. I love the size. And yet I hate the size. I am conflicted. I am within my trade-in period for devices and am conflicted whether to keep the GN2 or move to the GS4.

N2 pros: battery! Size!
N2 negatives: size and outside screen viewing in daylight.

Being new to the N2, I have not developed a love for the Spen or handwriting notes on the N2. But I love the battery life and the phone sounds good.

I do not like the N2 screen visibility outside. However, I suspect the GS4 will have similar outdoor viewing issues.

I can swap the N2 for the GS4 and even with a restocking fee, can walk away with cash in my pocket for a few more days.

Hmmm... what to do....
 
This may temporarily become a moot point. I just found out... a week into the service... that AT&T has royally screwed up the billing. That sure didn't take long. I'll head over to the store in the morning to see if they can repair the damage. If not, I may return all 4 phones and port to another carrier. At that point, I'll deal with the GN2 vs GS4 question.

... simply amazing in this day of computerized everything. How hard can this be? :rolleyes:
 
From the beginning I knew I wanted a Note phone but since it launched exclusively on AT&T all I could do was sit with my fingers crossed in hopes that Sprint would pick up the next one.

Fast forward to launch day on Sprint. I had my phone at 7am and set up my 715. That was the day I knew I'd never go backwards where size is concerned.
As far as the S Pen--I say it all the time, I'm a stylus girl from back in the late '90's and there's no way I would want a phone without one. Using the S Pen is as fluid to me as anything else I do in life.

When Steve Jobs said "if you're using a stylus they did something wrong" I wanted to cry. Manufacturers were now on a quest to do everything the Apple way. If I wanted an iPhone I wouldn't have switched to Android.

As far as the S4 being better than the Note 2, I think that purely subjective. I'm in love with my Note 2 and there's nothing the S4 does that would make me want it over my current phone. I plan on staying with the Note line. Besides I didn't spend all this money on my BT S Pen just to place it in a drawer never to be seen or heard from again.
 
Which is better is truly a subjective opinion. While not much smaller, the GS4 is small enough that I find it more attractive for my usage. But there is still so much for me to learn about the GN2. I really wish there was more than 14 days to trial a new phone.

I don't know that I will ever use the stylus. I've never used them enough to develop the "need". But the battery life is refreshing. And I've read the phone and speaker on the GS4 is inferior to the N2.

So the question in my mind is will I have more utility (comfortably) with a smaller form factor? If so, at what price (loss of features)? At my present level of knowledge, I see no downside to moving to the GS4 if battery life is reasonable. I acknowledge that ignorance is bliss. ;)

This can be such an individual thing. Seems like I could just flip a coin.
