Root Samsun Galaxy Prevail GB Opensource

This should have a topic of its own and since you found this, you should start the thread

This can only help with the dev of Cyanogen, and other ROMS

I wonder if they are going to come out with a new GB ROM

Maybe they seen us struggeling with this rom and decided to throw us a bone

Well to the person at Samsung who decided to release this to us, thank you very much, we will try to put it good use, and hopefully anyone who makes something from it will thank you and give you credit and your developers credit

just wanted to add this here

how do you compile it or what ever to put it on the prevail?

well there are some instruction files included, does not look like the platform source has everything needed, but I am not sure

there a lot of guided out the to build a Android Development system

look for them and start there

how difficult is it? im not good when it comes to this. wil android kictchen work for this? i dont even understand the instructions included lol. i should just leve it to some one that knows :D

Glad to see some one at samsung threw us a bone hopefully this is useful in getting the bugs worked put of hroarks cm7 beta. Ill be checking back here everyday like I have been.

so are there plans for an official gb update from samsung/boost mobile?
or did they just abandon this phone and decided to release what they had to see if we could anything with it

they probably will. when i emailed them not too long asking if we will get gb in the prevail and this is what he replied:

"we are unable to speculate when/if a software revision with this feature might
be available due to the fact that this might lead to inaccurate information and confusion.

Should this be available, it will be posted in our website or you will be informed by your service provider.
Please feel free to check with us periodically for updates.

Thank you for your understanding and patience."

the only way you wil learn is by doing it

first thing you need is an Android Dev system

so go get a computer that has some decent specs and install Ubunto Linux 11.4 (what i use) or try 11.10

use google and search how to build Android development system

there are lot of guides out there

then you can try to compile their code or even my Cyan source code

i have ubuntu on virtual machine. i just dont understand al the commands and stuff. i will try it some time in the future when im not stressed out with school and work. can i do it with android kitchen?

Do you think I will need anything more than the newest version of android sdk tools? Do I need any special programs for compileing the kernel source? I'm Running Ubuntu Natty x86

guys i see this question a million times a day, the sdk is useless

really it is

its for building android apps, so unless your building an app it will NOT help you build a rom/kernel etc...

FYI, source.android.com has updated their instructions for fetching the android kernel repository. It appears to download now. Yay!
