Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 GT-I8160 Guide to Flash Firmware

Hi there,
This is my first post so I'm a newbie here!
I followed Smokey's instructions to the letter earlier this week and so far so good, however i have noticed that i cannot activate mobile data. I've tried switching on & off via settings and via widget and also switched phone on and off, but no joy. Can anyone shed any light on this issue and help me resolve it?
Thankyou in advance.

Hi all,

I'm new too and just wanted to ask a quick question. I can't get the MB2/MB4 links to work so I have just downloaded BTU-I8160XXMK2.

Can I use pit file and this firmware to upgrade straight from GB?

Just didn't want to get stuck into page 1 guide before asking :-)

My setup is
Android Ver 2.3.6 Gingerbread
Baseband Ver = I8160DXMA1
THL firmware

Thanks

I'm really sorry for the beginner questions but reading through the posts I'm not sure what to do.

The firmware has 2 files... A large md5 file and ss_dl.dll

I have the pit file but what files do I put in CSC and PDA sections?

Thanks again

Just put the md5 in PDA. You won't always have a PIT or CSC file.

Thank you for the help. I just upgraded and it worked great.

One thing. I used Android Assistant and it tells me I have a total 550MB of ram. I did use the PIT file so I was expecting more ram.

Would anyone know how I might increase the ram?

Thanks

Thanks for this info, I assume that if I reset the phone i am going to lose all the programmes I have downloaded to it, is there any work around for this?

Either backup or redownload your apps. It's not like your purchases are lost or anything. I've reinstalled apps more times than I can count

This may sound dull, but can I back up my apps ( specifically Sygic navigation and Asphalt) using the back up system non the phone, or is their a back up procedure I acan use. it all confuses me as I have changed my external 32GB ext mem to int mem

Cheers

There are root apps such as Titanium backup in the Play store

Thanks again, I have Titanium pro on my phone but doesn't it back things up on to your phone, and wouldn't the factory reset wipe all of Titanium's back ups off the phone as well as Titanium itself?

Try scrolling (Settings/More Settings/Mobile Networks/Access Point Names) aka APN's.
Check if your correct network settings are there?
If not insert the APN manually.

Some Asian Countries example (China) use different frequency radio settings and the firmware is not compatible with international firmware. That is why is always better to flash your National Firmware just in case...

Hello!

I have recently backed up and reflashed stock android 4.3 on my Galaxy Nexus as a way to clear out unwanted apps and improve what had become a very laggy phone. It appears to have worked well, however my daughter would like me to do something similar on her Galaxy Ace 2 in order to try to revive it.

When I flashed my phone I used the excellent Wugs Nexus Root Toolkit which automates all the steps needed to backup, flash and restore.

Please could someone post some instructions for how to do this manually for the Galaxy Ace 2 (unless you know of a toolkit for doing this automatically). My particular concerns are:
  1. How to backup apps and data securely?
  2. How to flash the stock Jellybean ROM?
  3. How to restore apps and data?
I have followed a number of threads on these forums but can't seem to find clear instructions for this.

As an alternative, my daughter would like to try and return to Gingerbread which she feels was more responsive but I have only found references to a Russian GB ROM and I'm a bit nervous about trying that.

Can anyone suggest a ROM I might try that would respond better than the stock Jellybean? Maybe a CM ROM?
Is there a simple route back to the stock ROM if the customised ROM has problems?

Sorry for having so many questions!

Thanks in advance for any suggestion,

Julian

There are CyanogenMod builds for the device that are far more responsive than stock Jelly Bean. I recommend Team Canjica's CyanogenMod 10.1 build that has reached a bugfree state. It download links can be found on XDA forums. I also have a thread in the root section but it's slightly outdated

Thanks j800r. I may well try CM 10.1.
Please could anyone advise on the best way to backup apps and data on the Galaxy Ace 2 prior to flashing a new ROM?

Thanks,

Julian

I have the hong kong phone. What should I do to update?

Download Kies and check for updates from Samsung.
Or search for Hong Kong specific firmware only.

: confused:Or look on xda for custom roms and just to be safe, make sure to verify that the rom is compatible with Hong Kong devices.
:) Good luck!

Here is a question to ponder on. Is it to do with the touchscreen - i.e. it is something physical (hardware) on certain phones rather that software?? Sometimes the phone just doesn't seem to react - so I try the action again, nothing then try again and still nothing and the other times it responds immediately.

I think if you go to app manager stop the apps that keep dropping then wipe cache and re boot should stop it I cant remember the exact procedure what I did when my fne kept dropping ill look for the link

Ur better off just flashing the rom straight off with gapps and recovery if needed thats what i did and only thing that went wrong was no data signal couldnt call or get 3g. I could send and recieve sms from my fne tho so confused me a lil bit but after flashing bk to stock and then reinstall cm 10.2 I went and gotvthe cm 11 wich has been ok .. oh the problem with my fne was a borked radio but if your imei has gone id say its a bit worse than that...

Hi smoky, i was following your steps to flash clean factory version after my phone got soft bricked.
