I think a lot of us aint upgrading, or just getting Sim Only deals for the time being as it seems the general consensus is that the Desire is still a great phone and the new ones do not offer much more.

I was looking at the Atrix ( some what old now ) and the new razr which is fit, but i don't think i'll upgrade as of yet.
Thinking of trying Giffgaff for Sim only

Basically this :D

Must say I have been impressed with Giffgaff.

What's your tariff? Not something I have to consider any time soon but I'm starting to see what my money can get me. I've been impressed with Tesco's sim only deals. I don't know how they manage to do it so cheap!

I go for the £10 Goodybag each month and get 250 mins and unlimited texts and unlimited internet. I could probably use the £5 one, go over my limit and pay less than £10 [that's what Giffgaff suggest I do] but am happy just to pay the £10. If you click on the link in my signature and sign up through it we both get £5 credit. Each person you recommend who signs up gets £5 credit for you both.

I'll be sure to consider it when my contact is due to run out. A free deep diver? I'm game.

I'm suprised you say new phones don't offer much over the desire. Internal storage is a major issue for me.. I keep having to delete apps to make space for updates.
I like the desire but it has been surpassed... my contract is due to expire at the end of Feb so I'll be looking at moving on to a new phone.

I have 1gb of internal storage, i rooted.
My phone is now faster, cleaner, more storage the ever before.

Yeah like tyseh said, once you get around the huge oversight HTC made with internal memory, the desire is a great phone.

From what I can tell and what I've heard from other people GiffGaff offers a really tempting value proposition.

I know a lot of people go the sim free route. I am 13 months into my 24 month contract for my Desire and am still very pleased with it. I have considered sim free, but I don't really see any benefit to it when it comes to getting a new phone.

At present I pay

I think the idea is go sim only on a rolling contract kind of thing until a better phone comes out, I say better, I mean a much better phone, just because the desire can handle everything thrown at it.

I've read about about this "rooting" and knew you could change the internal software but had no idea you could increase the internal memory like that.

I'll have to read more about it. I flashed the firmware on my old Motorola Razr and it was pretty scary.. but well worth it.

Thanks for the advice.. I've got a lot of reading to do before I take the plunge.

It's probably thee main reason to root, it was for me.
Look at the looking to root guide that belongs to SUroot, it's in my sig
