Samsung Galaxy Nexus Review

The only issues that I have with this phone are;

Time to rotate the screen, aometimes it takes 30 seconds and a lot of rotating.
The gmail application does not auto format my mail when reading, soI have to scroll horizontally to read some messages.
The gyro sensors suck! I kept my Incredible so that my Google Sky program would work for me)

Otherwise, I really like the phone, and can live with these issues until the problemas are solved.

First off the release of this phone couldn't have been any worse than what it turned out to be. Release dates changed, no communication to stores and employees as to what the release status is of the phone, and overall piss poor launch of a phone that was supposed to shape and revolutionize the Android market.

I hated this too. It drove me batty, but that's kinda the way Verizon (and I think most carriers)is. They don't tell you anything until they make their announcement - and they don't tell their employees anything either. Its extremely frustrating, but that's just how it is.

For the hardware and phone aspects of the Nexus, it's a beautiful design, size, and shape for a phone. Lightweight, fits well in the hands, and the screen is quite stunning. Overall the appearance and design of the phone is and was well designed. Battery life has actually been quite solid for me, although I did purchase the extended battery at 50% during release of the phone. On a full charge I can go close to 1.5 days on the battery which is ideal and gets me through a full day. Then on the charger at night and ready to go for morning.
I agree. I don't face any battery issues.

As for the ICS, a complete and utter disappointment. I can see why the phone release was pushed back time and time again because ICS was simply not ready yet. Loads of issues with applications and the OS. Constant freezing, crashes that cause the phone to reboot, apps not working correctly. Numerous times I had to go into the settings and kill the app and then restart the app for it to work well.

I couldn't disagree with you more strongly. I love ICS. Its fantastic. Its fast, it works, and it looks good too. I have faced maybe 1 reboot in almost 3 months. I never see freezes or apps not working (with the exception of 1 app I tested for someone that hadn't been modified for ICS). I have never faced any of these concerns and I am truly perplexed as to why you have. Can you share some examples of apps that are freezing or crashing?

Some other details that should be pointed out. The camera is major disappointment. Horrible in low light conditions. Just not a solid camera I'd want to have in the spur of the moment when needing to take a picture.

A lot of people report problems with the camera, but many of us have shown that most of those issues are user error. Is it the best camera ever? No. Is it a piece of crap? No. If you take a moment to learn how it works you can take great pictures. I don't think any camera phone delivers great low light pics, but this one is better than any of my previous phones.

Constant dropping of data network to access 4G. What's the use on having data when the phone is dropping data almost every couple hours throughout the day.
Depends on your area, but I have seen the GN flipping between 3G and 4G in low 4G areas. Also, I believe the GN is slated to receive updates to its radios that will address connectivity issues.

Auto spell correct and cursor movement in the browser, what happened to it? If your on a forum and need to go back to a certain area where you've typed a message, it's impossible to get back to that same spot. No spell correct option. When typing, screen does not move when typing and you cannot see what your typing unless you stop, scroll, and then read what has been typed. Often times screen goes back to the far left and you still can't see what your typing.

There are definitely issues in this sense, however, I think that these are actually two separate issues.
1. Autocorrect - I believe the problem stems from how android 4.0.x handles different fields. I think that certain field names don't trigger autocorrect in Android (things like username, password, email address, etc). I think on sites where you aren't getting autocorrect ICS is just incorrectly applying (or not applying) autocorrect. This should be an easy fix, not sure why it hasn't been fixed already.
2. Text field cursor movement/corrections - this is a huge annoyance for me, especially on this site.

The list goes on and on. Messaging is a fail.

How? Please explain. I haven't had any issues.

Visual voicemail is a fail.
Never tried it so I can't comment.

ROFL, ok if you say so. From your response it seems you have very little experience with either OS's.

As for some responses in regards to apps. I've often removed all "installed" apps from the market place and still experience issues. Just even last night when I opened the browser, it would open, then close. It did this exactly three times and then on the fourth it stayed open.

I'd like to also mention this is a huge lag when typing in Messaging for text messages to friends and family. I'll often be three or four letters ahead before it actually displays what I typed. Often times I have to stop and make sure I hit the right letter before continuing with my message.

There is a known bug in android with regard to the keyboard lag....which is especially prevalent in landscape mode with autocorrect enabled. According to google, this bug has already been fixed and the fix is in the next update (of course we don't know when this will come out, as it has to go through VZW first for approval).

Issue 22432 - android - Slow typing response on large amounts of text - Android - An Open Handset Alliance Project - Google Project Hosting

4.0.3 = MR1 as best I can tell by reading up on ICS.

ICS is not perfect yet, but it's huge improvement/upgrade from both 2.x and 3.x.
Last weekend I got ICS update on my Asus Transformer tablet. I didn't feel like honeycomb was dog though not very snappy either. Wow, now it feels almost like iPad2 smooth, snappy with 4.0.3 almost like a whole new tablet. Every app I installed from honeycomb works just fine too. Can't imaging how much better new Tegra3/ICS tablets are. ICS is amazing android OS for both phone, tablet.

The reverse may also be true too...that many people not on this forum out there have issues and simply return the phone. So, the logic goes both ways.
Though in practice, if you ask most who work in some type of customer service, the vast majority of people speak up when it's something to complain about. When people are content or comfortable (in most any setting), they aren't as vocal. The same goes for sharing bad experiences versus good ones. The other end of this, is that if people really are having poor experiences, they'll typically try to return the phone or vote with their wallets by avoiding a Samsung device with their next upgrade-- none of us will really know.

Either way, we can extract from the general forum what we want to, but it should be taken with a grain of salt. The OP's experiences seem unique in many cases, so if they're being stated as fact, we may be able to verify them. I'm also interested in which apps were repeatedly crashing the OS, or what aspect of the messaging fails.

It sounds like he wants to like the phone, but in what has become a pattern, the end experience is inconsistent.

OP...I, like some others, have the unlocked GSM version running on AT&T and it has worked flawlessly for me.

I will say, when the GN was first available for GSMr's back in Nov/December, I purchased and returned it back to the online retailer after a few days. I just wasn't crazy about ICS and some of the bugs you pointed out compared to my GSII.

However, I got the itch again and gave it another try when I saw the white model for sale by Negri and it has been like night and day....a much better experience. Could be because it is running 4.2 but it has been smooth and stable... Google Wallet, etc. I haven't touched my S2 since I got it and couldn't take that step back to Gingerbread.

I totally understand your frustration...I would have probably done the same thing if I went through 3 units.

If I were on Verizon I'd take a serious look at the Razr Maxx. I am jealous it's not on ATT as it is getting great reviews. I would also look at the Galaxy S III (april launch) who's specs kill and will be running ICS. Problem for Ver customers is there is no guarantee they even will offer the device.

To be truthfull... I love ICS.. I dont have those problems in which you have... Only thing I notice that needs to be fixed are the handoffs between 3g and 4g.. Other then that ICs has been the best version of android.. Its actually the first version of vanilla android that isnt ugly and works great... Everyone is entitled to an opinion though so I wont bash yours...

Sounds a lot like the Xoom when I first got it. Honeycomb was pretty buggy when it was first released but after a few updates in ran rock solid. I imagine the same thing will happen with ICS. I realize this is a terrible way to think about it, but you're basically beta testing the latest OS when you buy a Nexus.

Heh! when I seen the iOS 5 mention I got a hint of trolling. However, my review is in high contrast. No regrets, best phone I ever.

Yeah, me too. I haven't experienced any difficulty at all.

I didn't have any issues with Stock ICS. Sucks OP, sorry you had issues and hate it. By far the best phone I've owned/played with.

I've never dropped a call, data or any of the OP's problems. I suggest an iPhone, or maybe take an android tutorial? I've yet to find an app that didn't work on ICS, although i know there are some that don't (that list is shrinking hourly though). The battery life on this thing sucks, and thats the ONLY negative which is easily solved by purchasing a spare battery. And what cell phone camera takes good low light pics? I've yet to see one and i've used many. Thats why i paid a few hundred bucks for a point and shoot. Cheers!
