Hi, I have problem with gps in my Samsung galaxy note.earlier it was working fine but now when ever I turn on google map or Sygic, the GPS icon appears and disappears continuously. the icon does not remain open but keeps appearing and disappearing every few seconds no matter how long I keep trying. I tried Hard reset, updated my firmware 4.1.2, uninstalled sygic but the problem persists. help will be most appreciated. thanks

I've never had a note but hopefully someone with more experience will step in soon.

Sorry I couldn't assist you further :(

thanks Howard for help, tried both and even other apps, but doesn't help. My problem is when you switch on GPS, the small GPS icon on the upper left side of phone which is supposed to stay on doesn't stay on, it appears for few seconds and disappears again and continues to do so. Any other help will be deeply appreciated. Thanks

If you mean that the GPS symbol is flashing then that is normal while it is searching for a signal. So the question is - do you have a clear view to the sky or are you indoors or in a built up area? Are you allowing network signals to be used for GPS assist?

Try this app to refresh your GPS data and then monitor performance. It's a battery hog, so just use it to test things out and get yourself up and running again. Then uninstall.

If that fails then maybe you have faulty hardware. It happens.

the above is a good answer but one more is does the GPS works or else you may need to go in location services and turn them on. I do not us data with my google maps but gps works.

Thank you both tdodd and newbie4, but my problem is gps symbol disappears altogether and after few seconds the icon reappears. its not about gps signal flashing but the symbol itself disappears and appears every few second. the symbol appears flashing for few seconds and disappears every 1 to 2 seconds. i have also shown the device to service centre and they say the gps antenna is fine so no problem with hardware.

This has got me stumped mate.

Try this and see if it helps.

Go to Accounts/Google/Location settings turn off "Let Google apps access your location" Hit the home button and reboot your phone. Once rebooted, go back to the above settings and re-enable Google location settings and reboot again. See if that helps at all.

I hope you get it sorted mate and would love it if you would let us know the outcome and any solution that may help others in your situation.

Good luck.

I had this same problem and the following fixed it:
go to settings then more settings then mobile networks then Access Point names click your menu button it should bring up add new APN and reset defaults click on reset to defaults this should solve your problem
