Help Samsung galaxy note jelly bean official update

Perhaps if Samsung ever decide to issue JB via Kies or a direct software upgrade in the UK there wouldn't be all these snags.

Any news of an *Official* JellyBean update for the Galaxy Note, yet?

Or so those comlete b*st*rds at Samsung not give a damn after they have taken our money ?

With over 30 official JB ROMs listed here - Firmware archive | Samsung Updates - for the GT-N7000 it is difficult to understand what exactly your complaint is about.

I received my official JB update OTA several weeks ago. The ROM is dated 14th Feb.

I believe owners of the 7000 would not want to run the risk of flashing roms and maybe making a mistake and bricking the phone. I've thought about it and looked at the instructions and found some of them complicated to follow. For example I can't go into download mode as per instructions even though I followed them to the letter. It just keeps restarting.

Hi tdodd,

well, my settings are and were exactly as you have them. So I understand, the system will continue to ask and I have to kill the request every time it comes along. At the moment I still have a Notification "Software Update, Set up software update" but I haven't touched it.

When I look at the app manager listing all I see the following (which could have to do with it): FWUpgrade-Show notifications checked but hidden, data=0; INDIServiceManager 24kB; Package installer-show notif check but hid, data=0; Service mode as above, data=244kB; Software Update as above, data=244kB - I now cleared data; Software Update as above data=4kB - I now cleared data. The Notification now dissapeared.

All above had "Show notifications" checked but hidden. May I "Force-Stop" such apps and then uncheck "Show notifications"? It seems the checkmark (was unchecked) in About Service->Software update->Auto update has no effect since it updated from ICS to JB.

What is "Blocking mode"? It has a switch "Disable notifications". Comment: ...notifications for the selected features (which?) will be disabled...

What is a secure way to go back to ICS without loosing warranty? I asked the vendors here in Switzerland and they do-not-know what to do! They say I need to do Factory data reset. This will only put back apps - I assume they will not switched back to ICS - will they?

Many thanks! Regards golpe

If it's already updated to JB then it's a bit late to try to stop it. Any other notification you have about updates should be fine to continue with. They will be updates for something else and I do not know why you would not want them.

I'm not sure I can help you further because you and I seem to be talking about different things all the time. I have already described my experience. I thought my instructions were very clear, and backed up with screen prints for clarity, but if something else is going on for you then I don't know what it is or how to fix it.

As for going back to ICS, the best way I know is to download the appropriate official ICS ROM for your country/region and to flash it with PC Odin. I already said as much in post #144. My views have not changed.

We seem to be going round in circles here. I think I've helped as much as I am able and I've got nothing new to add. If that's not enough then I'm sorry. Hopefully someone else can help.

I regret updating to jellybean. Slow shit. many apps went away garbage.Be prepared for a BIG disapointment. Dont update, you will be very sorry.

I updated and I love it. I got better speed, better battery life and some cool new features. Backup your data, then do a factory reset and see if that improves things for you.

If anyone who initially experienced problems with the JB update (as I have) and have taken the above path and seen a distinct improvement, please mention it here. I'm loath to take all the time required to factory reset and reconfigure, so I want a clearer idea that it would be worth the trouble.

Certainly, I would not have updated from a very smoothly-performing ICS build if I'd known what was in store for my once-wonderful Note.

I have always done a reset after an OS upgrade and I believe it helps by getting rid of the inevitable bit's and pieces that are left over from the previous OS.

I also do have a lot of stuff I don't use disabled and I'm certain that has helped with my speeds and battery life. See my battery stats thread below.

http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-note/706451-post-your-jellybean-battery-stats.html

I know that doing a reset can be a complete pain in the rear, but if you don't do it, you're not going to find out if it helps or not.

If you do a reset and you still don't like JB, then you can easily downgrade back to ICS using pc-odin.

Formerly on ICS 4.0.4 with speedmod k3-13 and upgraded to JB 4.1.2 k5-3. Reset was done after the upgrade process. Noticed the battery life improved and the faster battery charging on my note 1.

As I said weeks ago, I have official JB for my Note in the UK, downloaded OTA. That is the same ROM which produced over 8 days of use from one charge of the battery in the battery stats thread. Of course, it is the German ROM for my SIM free German Note, but it works perfectly well in the UK.

I also note (Hah! Hah!) that it appears that a Vodafone UK ROM has become available today, currently the first line (VOD) of this listing....

Firmware archive | Samsung Updates

and also from this website, which shows it to be available through Kies....

Mine's a sim free one as well but I use a vodafone sim only rolling contract. No sign of the update. I'd rather wait for an official update than mess around with flashing and updating through the above methods.

In the screen print I included in post #163 you will see an orange "Kies" indicator for that Vodafone ROM. That means the ROM should be available through Kies, which does sometimes (always?) come through earlier than OTA updates.

If you go to the web page here - Firmwares | SamMobile - and search for GT-N7000 you will see a huge list of ROMs for the Note, many with solid Kies flags and some with shaded flags where the ROM is not yet on Kies.

I also noticed from that list this morning that a new German ROM has appeared, albeit with a strangely absent release number. I tried a manual OTA check and repeatedly received a message I have not seen before....

So if it's highlighted in KIES why doesn't it show when you launch the software? Am I missing something here? Not being a techie I will need help with this ongoing update.

So... I've got an unlocked UK note on Vodafone contract and i can't get update yet!? what would happen if i tried to use the Vodafone one?

There is a possibility the Vodafone update would be full of Vodafone bloatware.

I, too, have an unlocked Note here in the UK and am still waiting for JB (on T-Mobile contract).

I'm normally patient to wait and was so with the ICS update last year, but I have to say that the JB delays this year are beginning to grate. On the other hand, the ICS update was huge and I don't think there will be nearly as much extra improvement with JB over ICS.

just checked Kies and it says I have the current firware. 4.0.4.
from the Uk with an unlocked phone on Vodafone contract.

There is a thread here - http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-international/523455-ics-csc-you-eligible-update.html - regarding the ICS update for the S2. While some specifics will be different the same principles should apply. You may find answers there to help you.

Apart from that, in my experience I have found Kies to be quite contrary and these days I don't even have it installed. I'll get my ROM updates either OTA or by flashing with Odin. Last week I installed the latest German JB ROM (the second one released for Germany so far) using Odin. All is good. :)

I used to like Samsung, but I now HATE Samsung with a passion.
Why in G*d's name are they not providing an update to normal UK owners (in my case I use the Three network not Vodafone).

Worse - KIES is effing useless. I can connect my phone with USB, I can see my files in Windows 7 File Explorer but I can't get KIES to see my phone. Flaky to the point of uselessness.

D*mn it. I could kill someone. Samsung technical support are useless. Never buy a Samsung phone.
