Samsung Galaxy S 4 hits the FCC in MetroPCS

we will get 4.2.2 and possibly 4.3 but i wouldnt count on that last one.samsung usually does 2 big upgrades.

my epic 4g went from 2.1 to 2.3, epic 4g touch went from 2.3 to 4.1, sgs3 went from 4.0 to 4.1 (we know 4.2 is in the works for the sgs3 though :P )

sgs4 is on 4.2 at launch so i imagine ill stop getting official support on 4.4/5.0 or whatever the number is for L

Shabby is there anyway to port s4 stock roms to our s3

yes, you just need to decompile our framework, merge in their newer code to ours. copy over all the system/app's find out which ones dont scale due to the descrease in screen res (normally there is ldpi, mdpi, hdpi, xhdpi [us], and now xxhdpi[sgs4]) take all teh images out and resize them, adjust the xmls and layouts to match the screen size. hopefully figure out how to make a 4.2.2 kernel boot on our 4.1 kernel and that is all hoping our ril works, bluetooth etc etc.

so, i tip my hat to anyone that is willing to put in teh time and effort :)

That's too much for me

S4 coming next month as far as an 4.2 rom for tw nothing yet you can find info on the s4 here Samsung Galaxy S 4 hits the FCC in MetroPCS - Android Forums
Great. My money is still waiting to be spent on that :D

Question. Because BYOD will roll out in more markets in July and it seems that the program will be available in August in the remaining markets and since the SG4 is a GSM phone, will it only be available in the markets in which Metro has the BYOD, like their current exclusive phones, or will it be available to everyone regardless since it's a flagship phone?

This is a guess.
I believe they will hold off on it until they have concluded the 'testing' phase of byod and will probably offer the gsm sg4 and byod in all markets on the same day.

I hope that will be sooner but we wont find that out for a while.

Thanks. I thought of that option too but I was hoping I wouldn't have to wait until August. If that turns out to be the case, hopefully they will have the BYOD in Florida by July. I can manage with that.

Well I called a few T-mobile stores around my area and they all told me I had to buy the Galaxy S4 with a plan, or be a current customer, even if I would pay for it up front. So I guess I'll have to wait until Metro bring theirs out. Hopefully it's next month.

Edit: I called the main T-mobile representative and I was able to get more info. Basically I could buy the phone cash with a plan. I can cancel the plan as soon as I want to, and would only pay what for the service I used in that time. Again, this would be an option I would only use if the BYOD comes to Florida before the SG4 is sold by Metro PCS.

Or better yet buy it from online store and dont even have to have a plan, cheaper too. amazon I am sure is selling it.

all assuming of course that they let you use the tmobile one with byod. it could be very well that they have a list of imeis that it checks to validate that your device isnt stolen, or unsupported....

Yeah it would be great to buy it from Amazon. But from what I've seen, Amazon isn't selling the GS4 from T-Mobile, I mainly see them selling the International version or from other carriers.

True, although I would assume that T-Mobile phones would be the easiest ones for MetroPCS to accept. But I'll wait until the program comes to Florida and others try it out before I do anything.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

unless they plan on using a few generations back as possible byod devices and keep premium devices to tmobile...

I am finding it curiouser and curiouser that there is this freekin' vacuum of real time information on this.

Only one now non-responsive member here went BYOD and not so much as a flitter from anyone doing it on the Mothership's Faceplant. Figures if non-AF types did it and and it didn't work well Faceplant is where they'd go first.

Just damn strange it is.

Homey's glad he's in no hurry for a new phone.

I mainly buy from Amazon. I rarely shop on ebay or other online stores for electronics. I've seen the SG4 on ebay for decent prices on ebay, and it seems that the sellers post when the phone has a bad IMEI. Is ebay where you bought it from or you just looked around?

I found this store:
Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-M919 T-mobile Black works under GSM data networks technology and also 4G LTE. Under the 3G networks (uses 850/AWS/1900/2100Mhz) the phone can stand by for about 350 hours and 8 hours on internet usage time. It

swappa is indeed a pretty effective marketplace for phones.
I actually got it on an NBC sales special going on last week, it was a one day sale i think the price is back to $629 now, still not too bad but im sure you can find another SGH-M919 for around $600 shipped on ebay

Thanks for the info! I guess I have a little time to look around at ebay, swappa (first time seeing it) and any other place I can find it. Between taxes, the $580 T-Mobile SG4 will end up costing me $620, so finding one from $550 to $570 seems like a good deal.

If the Metro GSM cards are good and they would work in Florida, I would go that route. Given that reports from south florida users are available. And if the sim cards aren't available in Florida in July, hope there is someway I can have one shipped to me. But very few people have been able to report about this, and the few reports haven't been good.

Best case scenerio is that Metro releases the GS4 in the coming weeks :D
