Help Samsung Galaxy S - Indian thread

in settings, for vibration intensity try changing it value in doing so the phone does vibrate to show you how intense it is , do you feel the vibration there ?

if in settings it works then try changing your ringtone to some pre defined ones of samsung rather than your custome then put the phone to vibrate mode and see if it works ...

if none of these works for you then I am afraid I cant think of any solution ... may be try a factory reset but you will loosee all ur data...

any other members here pls suggest...

@ saj_2001ind - Thank you so much!!! Yeah I was able to feel the vibration intensity. It works now after changing the ringtone to some pre defined ones of samsung rather than the RingDroid.

You have been of great help. Saved me from a factory reset!!

Thanks again!!

Guys, i'm facing a big issue with downloading KIES.
I've downloaded the 138mb installation file from the Samsung website.

On double-clicking the icon, the setup process begins.
Now, my problem is that it take more than 4-5 hours to install and then update.

After all of that, it says there is a problem during installation.

1. is 4-5 hours normal for the installation?
2. anything i should consider before/during installation?

It took me 3 Windows XP Machines, 1 Windows Vista Machine and 3 whole days to get Kies to do anything right. It took me half a day just to upgrade kies with a very good internet connection(it even prompted me to retry for loss of connection lots of times). But in the end I managed to upgrade my phone firmware using it.

So to answer your question: 4-5 hrs is very normal and just cross your fingers before, during and after installation ;)

If you are still facing issues with Kies then this thread at the xda forums could help you:

haha thank you, i was almost gonna get myself a new pc.
but why is it so ridiculous?

You can try with Handcent SMS instead of RingDroid....it also offers to pick ringtones from gallery...my phone has gone for replacement...so can't test now if vibration works....have a try.

After downloading an app called alchemy, my android market app isnt working properly..... The app launches but when i try to download anything, i keep getting "network error, please retry or cancel" ..... I tried a soft reset after deleting alchemy, but that hasnt worked.. My wi fi is working fine, as im sending this post via my phone... Im using jg4 with cflagfix... Thanks..

nope nothing works only Gmail worked to sync my email thats it , no android market,Gtalk nothing works installed IM+ tho

market not working is possibly bcoz your gtalk is also not connecting...if you can try doing a factory reset...if you cannot then I am not sure how to make gtalk work...it happened to me in 1st week I bought my phone and after going through all the forums I came to know it was actually gtalk issue being not able to login...so I did factory reset then logged into gmail 1st then into gtalk 2nd then market...if you try to login directly into market withour setting/loging into gmail and gtalk it does not work...well its wierd but it happened to me...

@flyingmachine
Might sound silly, but did you try with other USB ports?

Also, was your kies installation error free(It probably wouldn't have launched if it had errors, but good to know)?

yeah initially it had a lot of errors.

the second time was totally error free.
It also detects my phone when on "Mass Storage".

Doesn't work in any other usb port either. :(
what do i do?

I also faced this same issue like you showed in ur video...but why should we bother about kies to work... we can flash using ODIN...what else we need kies for..I find it a horrible software :)

Well, for me, I don't wanna flash.
I just wanna upgrade (officially)
What if i want to do that without using KIES?

you can take ur phone to samsung service center they will do it for you...this is one way without kies...but ODIN is safe as well, I got tired of kies and did the ODIN way it worked preety well, you can choose to flash the official firmware only rather than experimenting with beta ones ... I think latest is I9000DDJG4 which you will get when you flash through kies or through ODIN or samsung service center ... but yeah if you are not confortable dont use ODIN people here had messed up badly with their phone while flashing or rooting...

Looks like your Kies is fine ...
When your installation failed the first time, I hope you cleared the temp folder it created. In win XP you find them in documents and settings. If you proceed to do a second install it skips downloading those files.

Kies is a pain to install. I wonder how their QA let it pass.

Installed kies with tremendous difficulty but succeeded. It just took toooooo long. I felt like i was in dial up country.I got a few errors while installing but somehow it worked fine when it finished the installation.
There are many stories of kies not isntalling properly on some computers i was getting a low space error repeatedly and had to clean up a few gb before kies would work properly

Try installing kies on a friends computer and see if it works with your phone.

I have a small question about contacts.
I was saving all my contacts to the phone after i got the phone and syncing it with my gmail account.
But after the firmware update ive noticed that when i tried to get my contacts back from gmail i didn't have the phone contacts.
I thought even my phone contacts are synced with my gmail account.
Is that not the case?

Will someone please clarify what is the best way to save contacts on this phone so that you can sync them with gmail and get them back coz samsung wipes your phone whenever you do a firmware update.

The options you get are Phone , sim , *****@gmail.com.

The contacts set up is one place where im missing the symbian, and oh yes firmware updates without a need for backing up anything.

So just a simple guide to the most effective contacts setting up procedure that allows you to use the features one is used to would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Yep, i did that as well.
The thing is when i connect via "Mass Storage", KIES recognizes the device.
Here is a screen-shot of that.

Only when i connect via "Samsung Kies", it does what is shown in the above vidoe. So i'm really clueless.

have you rebooted your phone and tried connecting it .
Some people report that it helps.

Is kies installed on c:
People have reported driver issues when they installed it to an external device.
Run kies and close and then connect the phone without kies running . Once you get drivers installed and device ready
Run kies and it should hopefully work

Cheers

Darveish is absolutely correct. If you guys still having problem with KIES switch your operating system to Windows 7...if not possible please use virtual Windows 7 in Vmware Workstation and don't upgrade KIES during installation...block it by firewall.
