Samsung Galaxy S2 coming to the US?

Can anyone give a professional estimation of this phone's release in the US? I'm so bummed it's not already here.

..It's not even out in the UK so it won't be out here anytime soon. I say a month or longer before we even here about it coming to US, let alone being announced on carriers as to what names and etc.

It's nothing new. Same went for the US Galaxy S phones so I mean you have to use common sense.

Similar trajectory as last year for the Galaxy S. Early June released in the UK. July 15th released as the T-mobile Vibrant in the US. Since the Galaxy S II is being released in early May instead, that would make the US release sometime in June, a month later. Samsung had to do some major US carrier negotiations before the release but I would imagine that process has been streamlined since now they have a history and working rapport. I'm optimistic it will be sooner than that, maybe even very late May. The sluggish Atrix sales (and probably G2x as well), and the impending executioner known as the iPhone 5 being delayed until the Fall, means the carriers probably want to quickly capitalize this summer on a proven seller before the seas get stormy and the hurricane season of turtlenecks starts forming. The millions of Galaxy S phones sold in the US last year doesn't hurt either.

Keep in mind verizon just launched the samsung droid charge which is a joke of a phone to release at this time since it is a last gen phone. Verizon will try and milk this as long as possible so we might even see a longer delay for the galaxy s2 on verizon. Other carriers I can't speak of but obviously teh LTE network is easily the fastest network out there

Add to that this...

Samsung Infuse 4G Hitting Walmart for $178.88

...which would probably suggest that AT&T is in the same boat as Verizon, releasing a new Samsung phone that isn't in the GSII family. As I said before, my hunch is June for T-Mobile, September or later for the other 3.

I'd love to be wrong, though, as Verizon just texted me that I became eligible for what would be my final early upgrade. At this point, the GSII would be the only thing I'd use this on so I will wait.

I could see them releasing this for Verizon sooner than later IF they kept it a CDMA/Non-LTE phone. That way they keep the Samsung Charge's selling point as a LTE phone.

Granted, that would suck to have such a powerful phone held down by their slower 3G network but it makes sense, no? This is all speculation of course.

The other argument against a LTE GSII was that the LTE radio would bulk up the phone significantly, losing it's touted thin form. Notice how all the other LTE phones, planned or released, are comparatively thicker than average. Anyone know if there is there any validity to that?

That's good question and I have been wondering on it too. The first generation LTE phones are all thick because the first LTE radio chips are manufactured with older semi-conductor processes. But I heard newer ones in the works are smaller and might fit into slim body less than 10mm. I'm not sure if Samsung can pull this out for SGSII this year or not. If not, they won't sacrifice the thickness of SGSII to just fit bulky LTE radio for sure.

As for the U.S launch schedule, I think it will be a few months earlier than last year because they are launching in Korea, U.K earlier than last year by that period.

If Verizon really wants to sell LTE, I don't think they would pass the SGS2 up. I think of the thinness as a plus. It will still be thin even with a 4G radio, and will probably have a beefier battery to fill in the gaps. Maybe their first 4G phone with decent battery life, although I dunno how the Charge is doing right now. Sprint was able to add a qwerty keyboard and flash on the Epic, and the other carriers did special physical stuff with their own versions, so I think Samsung is quite willing to play ball if they can get onto every carrier.

Another thing that could happen, is Samsung could make a custom model specifically for Verizon. By that I mean it would launch under a different name with subtle differences.

That's what the Moto Droid Bionic was for. The delayed Bionic (now believed to be a renamed Targa) seems to be a very similar phone to SGS2, except w/qHD display IIRC. Anybody know if Verizon has a policy of avoiding introduction of similar phones at around the same time?

Bummer. I forgot all Droids were Verizon only and Motorola is locked onto Verizon except for the Atrix. T-mobile already has the SGS2 and Sensation set, so a third flagship from Motorola is very unlikely. Since the SGS2 is old pie now, I'm looking to anticipate the next shiny toy. :p Maybe there's some magical feature it has besides qHD that will wow me to skip the SGS2. Or not. The cycle begins again...

The SGSII is not old pie. Probably heard about it a lot but it will be one of the best handsets for a while. Any phone that comes out will be dual most likely and not to many dual cores are out so nothing major will be released. It's just more so a waiting game of what was already announced and what was leaked. It's only two dual core devices out.

Targa was thought to be a code name for the Droid 3. If you look a the pictures that were leaked earlier today, it's about the Droid 3 and they said it had the name Targa beside it. Obviously it doesn't look like the phone that was rumored to be the Targa a month ago. So it could be a differ device all together or just a code name. I think the Bionic will stay the Bionic.

What? You didn't hear about that new Motorola phone that will do your laundry? I hear Sony is releasing an octo-core organic phone that strokes you to sleep at night too, but won't ship until this Fall. SGS2 is old hat.
