Sad but true. My current phone is actually dieing so I *really* need the S2 to get on VZW soon!!

Still not sure how the Samsung Infuse fits into AT&T's roadmap if this is true. Does it mean that the S2 is a Fall/September release at the earliest?
Any word from your contact about Verizon? Like when and will it include LTE? I've been dying for SOME sort of insider information. There are folks that get these things months ahead of release, even before test groups get them, and yet no one seems to be interested enough to come forward. Not even the usual suspects on this message board.

btw I still think the Infuse is scrapped. It has even less coverage than the Bionic, which will only live on in name only, and the most people have seen of it is some lady holding it at CES freaking out about back shots, and a handful of sites with non-functional units for pictures. The 4.5" wouldn't make much sense in the market either. Dell had their fun experimenting with the Streak and Acer might be fooling around with 4.8" super long phones for international markets, but yeah I don't think Samsung is gonna go and announce some niche product. I don't think the Walmart ad means much either.

screw buying an AT&T variant. NEVER! international unlocked FTW man when considering them. it's either T-Mo variant for me or unlocked international for AT&T.

Im guessing this is going to be the infuse since the image on the invitation is the same as the wallpaper on the infuse on ATTs website... Samsung Infuse 4G ? Android 2.2 Smartphone ? Wireless from AT&T
Wish it was the GS2 announcement.. but i doubt it.
T-mobile and AT&T were racing each other to see who could release the Galaxy S first. They were within a week of each other. If this is really the AT&T version of the SGS2, the T-mobile version ain't far behind, or might even trump it by a few days like last year.

So, I know this is my first post, but hear me out. When Samsung was showing off the Infuse at CES, they were touting its thinness, its super amoled plus display, they were hesitant to talk much about the processor but that it was 1.2GHz and they refused to show the back to the video takers. The only real departure from the SGSII was the screen size which can change on a device before launch.
What I'm thinking is that the Infuse was/is supposed to be the SGSII for AT&T but Samsung wanted to unveil it on their own timetable, so they came up with "preliminary" specs because AT&T wanted them to make a showing for their "4G" unveiling at CES.
So Thursday they may unveil the Infuse, but I think it will be the Galaxy S II Infuse.

Another thing that I just thought of, which is circumstantial, but reasonable...why would they need a special event to unveil a phone that they unveiled at CES? Unless it's another phone or it's a different Infuse, ala, the SGSII Infuse.

The launch makes perfect sense if you look at other phones being released on US carriers. Verizon just got the droid charge which is identical to the infuse in specs, minus .2 inches on the screen size. The infuse will be able to compete with the inspire on att at the low-mid end with the galaxy s2 coming out later to compete with other dual core phones.

I just don't see how something that's kinda mediocre like the CES Infuse warrants a special announcement, unless there is more to it, that will give AT&T a one up on everyone else.

I agree...The current Infuse specs do not merit a special announcement IMO. On the other hand the S2 or a like spec'd phone would.
The Infuse looks very similar to the SGS2...

And even though it was announced at CES, there are NO DIMENSIONS released for the phone.
They gave the Galaxy Tab some diet pills and slimmed it down.
They will give the Galaxy S II some steroids for more POWER, but you know how it tends to SHRINK things.
That will be their logic come Thursday.

This event would be the perfect time to announce the S2. The Infuse is just another Android phone albeit with a huge screen and they are not going to create an new configuration (Infuse with the guts of an S2) just for the US.
The S2 is a game changer. With the delay of iPhone 5 this is a golden opportunity to pull iPhone users with big screen envy (like me) into the Android fold. If they release in Sept the S2 will not be as special as it is now. This is will be a HUGE missed opportunity for ATT, Samsung, and the Android community if they don't announce the S2 for the US this Thursday.

lol so much twisting and turning to try and associate the SGS2 with the event. We are MAD. I think I'll go eat some cake and wait til Thursday.

I also have a decent contact that says it is coming in May. If I was a betting man I'd put money on this being the device they mention this thursday at their big press event. Come on...Samsung and At&t having a press event and not Saying the S2 is coming...I will riot, along with 3-5 other phone nerds. Man will At&t be scared
I read on phonearena that Eldar from mobile-review said that some guy from Samsung told him about some 4.5" edge-to-edge phone coming late fall. S3 will be called the Infuse? Galaxy Infuse. Galaxy S III Infuse PLUS?

Verizon pretty much dropped the ball on 4G phones up to now. All with old tech. and the Charge is an overpriced old tech phone. Just waiting for the Sammy GS2 to come out and change carriers (most likely Sprint).
