Samsung Galaxy S3 Guide

I came upon a compilation named "Samsung Galaxy S2 Guide" when searching for file types cluttering up my S3 like '.ngmoco' as I was encountering memory full issues.

Is there an equivalent guide for the Galaxy S3?

Thanks.

You mean a guide to what file types there are and if they can be deleted off the sd card?

Yes, that's it. When I conducted a Google search one hit was from a Forum member. Another member chimed in & noted that they would add his list to the S2 guide.

Anything on the SD card is considered non-essential. You can completely wipe it if you choose

I think that I may have misstated what I'm referring to as the "SD" card.

When I'm referring to phone memory in general, I differentiate it as memory categorized as "device memory" or "internal' SD card memory.

I find it hard to believe that one can delete every file on a phone's internal SD card at will without potentially serious implications.

For example, removing an app's picture files, thumbnails, etc. would compromise its ability to function.

Please do let me know if I'm misinterpreting memory types.

Your phone has an "external" SD card ( sd-ext or sd1) slot, as well as "internal" memory sd card (sd0). You can wipe either one and the apps will repopulate them as needed.

Nothing the phone needs to operate is on either one of them

Yup! For example, you put a .zip file on SDcard0 (internal flash memory), install it in recovery mode, delete the file, the software is still on the phone  saved in ROM i think?

Not the zip itself but yep

Only app data, dl apps etc etc gonna be on your sd0. Much needed things in sd0....that wouldn't be good

It depends on the app. Some will save game files on there, but nothing the the phone or app needs to run normally is on either of the cards.

If you want to test it out, back them up and wipe them. It'll be repopulated as you use it

Thanks much for the memory primer! I actually use a redundant daily online backup so I'll give your suggestion of wiping the internal SD & letting it repopulate.

On a related note, is there an app out there that monitors internal storage on a realtime basis so I'm not caught off guard again?
