Samsung getting Class Action Law suit soon?

This was actually an advertisement on this page!! I clicked on it about a week ago and was going to start a new thread but after some searches I couldn't find anything else on it (the linked advertisement wouldn't even show up in a search) so I concluded it was bunk. But who knows! I just found it funny how it was an advertisement...I'm guessing they make $$$ off class-action lawsuits.

They get their piece, just like any other lawsuit. In fact, they stand to make better money with less effort, if they can get enough folks on board that Samsung will feel forced to settle.

I guess I don't see the point just yet. Samsung has acknowledged the problem (to varying degrees, as most companies do) and has pledged a fix. Once they have grossly passed their intended timeframe without explanation, or fail to fix the problem, that's when I'd join the class.
 
There are too many Law Firms trolling for business.

I mean really people? It's a first generation model!
 
I work for a medical device company, and ads work! We are getting 20-30 claims a day on a couple of products that have been advertised on TV. The users didn't know they had a problem until they saw dollar signs. And what is sad, is that if any settlement is made, the lawyers will get most of it. Wish I was a lawyer instead of an engineer......

I hate to be one of those people, but if you search it has been mentioned in this forum and a few blogs that samsung said they are aware of the problem and working on fixing it.

The result of the lawsuit will be that the lawyers will get rich and users will receive a free app pointing you to Samsung's Support group so that you can vent your anger at their incompetence. The problem is...the app is location-based.
 
I wish the judge would throw out this suit. If you are not happy with the phone - take it back. If AT&T or whoever won't take it back, THEN you have grounds to sue as the product didn't live up to its advertised features.

As mentioned above, a class action suit just gets the lawyers rich.

Exactly. Lawsuits are for when normal channels have been exhausted without satisfaction.
 
I work in the Litigation department of a large company and I sit near the paralegal that gets all of the lawsuit phone calls and believe me, she is on the phone all day every day. Once she told me that a person called after talking to a lawyer that wouldn't take the case unless the person could find other people with the same issue so it could be a class action lawsuit. Class action is all about the money for the lawyers, especially when the lawsuit has hundreds or thousands of people. Often the Lawyers rake in half the money and everyone else gets a pittance.

You would be surprised how often large companies settle because it would cost them more in lawyer fees to win than it would to just pay a large settlement. In fact, one trial was supposed to start so the company was flying everyone to the city where the trial was and shipping everything they needed for preparation. Less than 24 hours before the trial was supposed to start, the judge gave the plaintiff a two week extension. Everyone had to fly home and come back two weeks later. Just that day cost the company more than a million dollars!

It does much more than that. For one it punishes the defendant. It also pays those bringing the suit for their loses. The fact the lawyers take a big cut only reflects that those bring suit are taking no risk, the cost of bring the suit.

What's the frigging problem with that everyone? You don't have to participate as a claimant if you don't want to. If you want a bigger cut then fund the suit mano-a-mano against the defendant and take it all.

Next thing you know someone will chime in with a "Shakespearean" comment about lawyers-and thus show their ignorance.
 
GPS has worked fine right from the beginning on my device. Quite fast, extremely accurate.

It might be a quality control problem. Some GPS units may meet the expectations of the user, but a large number of them do not. This class-action is for people still experiencing problems.

Of course. Most class action suits are about mass problems of the same sort over the population of users of a device, service, etc.

I'd be hard pressed to find a c.a. suit wherein 100% of users experienced the exact same issue(s). Maybe there are some out there in legal history, but none come to mind beyond the sort environmental activists put forth from time to time.
 
No offense, but a lawsuit? Really? Shoot, I have bought so many items over the years that didn't work as well as I'd hope, or I maybe thought was better than what it was.

Anyone who bought this phone shortly after it came out already knew that GPS was a problem. I have one on the way, and I know GPS is a problem. How, exactly, is that something that you can sue over?

This is most of the problem that we have in the world today.....let's sue, cause that has to make the problem better....

I don't understand this position.

Samsung says they include a GPS in the phone that works.

It doesn't work for a large portion of the population.

State and federal consumer protection laws provide consumers with remedies for products that do not perform as advertised or that were defectively designed or manufactured, even after the warranty period has expired.

So, shouldn't we use this law if we are running out of other options?

... or do you believe it is OK for companies to release faulty hardware with no repercussions, even though the law says otherwise?
