Help Samsung S2 Auto Correct?

I used to have an auto-correct / spell checker on my samsung S2, but since the latest android update it no longer works. I have checked various places online and most say it should still be there, but I cannot locate anything under Setting>Language and Input.

The options on the samsung website show the following:
Auto correction: When you touch the spacebar or enter punctuation, mistyped words will be auto-corrected.
Show correction suggestions: Select when you want your device to show you suggested words during text entry.

However when I misspell a word it leaves it wrong even though the correct spelling shows up in blue on the predictive text bar. It will only change if I press the blue word on the bar, this is fiddly when typing a message quickly and also means I am unable to add my own words to the 'dictionary'.

Any ideas?

i do not have an s2(i could move you to the s2 forums, if you like. i just need to know what carrier you have), but i would check your phone's settings and under "language and output" there should be a spell checker or personal dictionary options.

I have a samsung s2 on virgin, and the dictionary seems to have disappeared since the last update to 4.1.2. It's completely changed the look and settings on my phone

i just checked and it is not a very active forum.....i'm down for leaving it here if you like.

so nothing in settings about spell checker or dictionary? that is weird. maybe try a different keyboard app.

As the OP is a fellow-Scot it's safe to assume that we're talking about the GT-i9100 a.k.a. "International S2" on Virgin Mobile UK, so I'm taking the liberty of moving it over to that section.

maybe try a factory reset? might fix it, not sure though.
