Samsung S4 has Problem with my number

Hi

I have been using Samsung Galaxy s4, Korean version (Android 5.0.1), which has started to have a problem with the number I have.

Here is the problem:

  • The phone stopped to receive calls and text messages
  • I put a new sim in the phone to see if my old sim was malfunctioning.
  • The phone started to work fine.
  • So I thought the sim is the culprit, got a replacement sim of the same number and put it in the phone.
  • The phone again stopped working.
  • The phone also periodically gives error of "Not registered with the Network. Error 15."
  • Bought a new sim and inserted it, the phone got to work again.
  • Put my replacement sim in a spare phone and the sim worked flawlessly in that phone.

With the replacement sim in my phone, I can make call, but cannot receive calls. If I make a call, the phone starts to receive calls and text for a minute or two, then stops again. But if I put a new sim instead of the replacement sim, the phone's working fine without any issue.

I showed to phone to different repair guys, no one has any clue.

Anyone here with an answer to this issue?

Guess I read things wrong. Thought you meant that phone will work for a time with a different sim then start to act up.
Are all the sims that you have tried for the same network?
The sims that do not work, original and replacement with your number act up but borrowed sim with different number is fine?

All the sims I tried are from the same network.

Phone is working with any sim I insert, same network or the other network. It only has problem with my number that I have been using for years. I cannot change my number, hence the network.

Seems to point to something on the carrier's end. Sim not set up properly in their system. Have you contacted their tech support other than to request a new sim? They should be able to ping your phone or at least be able to troubleshoot the error.
Sorry I can't provide more help.

No haven't spoken to the carrier's guys. I thought they will straightaway blame my phone since the sim is working fine in other phone.

Anyway, thanks for your time mate :)

Definitely a strange problem. The sim with your number works in other phones but not yours. Other sims, different number works.
I got to say, first time I have ran into this.
Please post what the issue was if you get it sorted.

It's a baffling issue even mobile repair guys haven't heard of.

A guy told me every sim card has a mac address which is clashing with the phone. That's why no matter how many times you get a replacement sim, it won't work with the phone because mac address doesn't change. I told him to reinstall Android system but he said since the phone is meant for use in Korea, you will run into other problems if system is reinstalled.

That's all for now :)

I'm curious as to what firmware is currently installed, can you check in Settings - About Phone, and check the build and baseband version? They should match and start with the model number. Can you post what it is?

Model number is: SHV-E330L

I've been looking into a few things and usually the build number matches the baseband.
Your build is OL4 but baseband is OK1.
I haven't been able to find anything on OK1.
Not knowing the history of the phone, I'm not sure if this is normal or a different baseband has been flashed.
The baseband contains radio and modem data.
Still digging into it.
In a previous post, you mentioned that you had ask if the system could be reinstalled. The link to Sammobile is for the stock firmware that you could install with Odin. Might be what the repair man said may cause problems because baseband is different.
If you were to install it, I'm pretty sure the baseband would change to OL4 and I'm not sure how that would affect connection to your network . Firmware flash would put it back to bone stock Korean out of the box condition.

Thanks a lot for the details. I would go for a re-install and will let you know how it works. Thanks again for all your help :)

Here are three different Samsung devices. All are AT&T. A S3, S4, and S5.
Build and baseband match. All are Rooted but basically stock.

The Korean Galaxy S4 model, SHV-E330L, is a carrier branded minority variant that is designed specifically for the Korean, LG Uplus, LTE-A, network.

You cannot flash another, alternative, stock Samsung firmware to it as it has a unique, LTE-A modem.

It will not work on any U.S. 4G networks and is only partially compatible on some 2G and 3G, U.S. networks on 1900MHz only. Since it is a GSM based phone it is totally incompatible with the U.S. old CDMA networks for Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular, etc:
