Samsung Transform

What wha? I thought the transform was supposed to ship with froyo?

I was pretty sure I saw that also on a few sites. Don't remember it being there before, but the sprint site says 2.1 now.

In a bassackwards way, it's a pleasant surprise. I say that because I was happy with how the phone responded. When I saw 2.1, I knew (hope) it will only get better.

I think that Froyo was just speculation on certain websites, really. I don't recall ever seeing anything official that said the Transform came with Froyo. I've been hearing that they will roll out Froyo "soon" after the release of the phone. I'm betting they roll it out around the end of Oct. or so (maybe even end of Nov.). Samsung is working on Froyo for the Galaxy S phones, so it wouldn't surprise me if they roll it out to the Transform in the same time frame.

I really hope that best buy throws this on the free phone Fridays deal, it would be perfect because I am switching from Vrizon to sprint and I am planing on getting an epic and 2 transforms, epic for me of course and transform for girlfriend and brother. this would be awesome, saving me 300 bones plus tax!

I doubt it, but you could hook them up with the free Intercept (I know, but it's free) then see if the price for Transform drops within 30 days.

could wait and see what amazon and wirefly do in a few weeks. Might see some better deals.

I wonder since the Transform has shares some of the same guts if it'd be an easy froyo upgrade for the moment with little effort on the rooting side. Talk about breathing new life into an old phone.

I bet SDX can get it going.

I am new here, so hello :)
Not sure if everyone knows it or not, but I was told, and verified tonight, that Sprint has a deal with Best Buy and Radio Shack to give instant rebates, versus mail in. I'm confused as to why this is, but I am not complaining. Just hoping Radio Shack has some come in tomorrow!!!

As far as SprintID, my wife's Transform was bogging down and freezing up. Everything started working smooth again when she uninstalled all the apps that Sprint ID put on the phone.

That is true. I buy all my wife and daughters phones through BB or RS due to the instant rebate. Most of the time they are also a little cheaper than sprint also. Purchased the Transform for my daughter, and I have to say I am very impressed with this phone. I think it may hae the best battery life of any Android phone ever made. It will easily get a couple of days with pretty heavy usage. Wife is thinking of selling her Evo and buying this because of the battery alone.

lol. sprint id = fail. which id was it that was causing the slowdown.

We all knew that was coming, right? No one in their right mind has that many widgets running at the same time. What Android device can handle that many widgets (along email synching and such) without being bogged down?

I think it's a good idea for folks new to Android as a quick look to see the power of Android, but Sprint needs to educate better otherwise those same folks will come to hate the phone.

You cannot cancel, it's install id, or don't activate, I tried while I was at the store. I really don't understand it, because those little annoying widgets are easy to delete, and from what I can tell, it's just a 'mood changer.' Mine is up and running like a charm.

can you customize the id's and switch between them?

For those intersted, Amazon.com currently have the Transform for $99 with a new plan (no upgrades offered just a new plan or without contract). They're also doing FREE activation up until Midnight Oct 17th.

Do note though that the website currently says: Availability: Usually ships within 4 - 6 weeks.
Edit - The website is now showing a 5 - 7 week time for shipping...Hmmmm

I can't imagine they won't have any in within that time span but perhaps call customer service and check. It would be a shame to get this great deal, wait 4-6 weeks for your phone by which time it's less than $99 in store. Just thought I'd pass on the information though.

nice find. the $99 price point in a amazing deal. too bad its only for new activations and not upgrades. :(

Yup, you sure can. Imagine themes for winmob, that's what this is. I haven't really dug into the device much to see what kind of hardware changes it makes, but the only evidence left after you delete and uninstall is the program icon. Double checked task manager, and indeed the ID is stopped and not running.
Switching between each ID is just the touch of your finger.

I would also imagine that if you really wanted to get rid of the Sprint ID icon as well, you could just install Launcher Pro to increase your dock icons and change them to programs, etc. that you really want there instead.

LauncherPro gets rid of the sprintId....the apps that were added with whatever id you chose are there but you can go in the app drawer and select the Sprint ID and remove those components....

actually launcher pro just runs on top of sprint id. i would rather have a option to uninstall it completely.

I love the Fancy Widget running on the Transform. And the weather finally updates on ver. 1.3

Did a full system and app backup, and I think it's perfect now.

I definitely am glad to read some of this. Hope this goes to best buy before the 7th of november. That would be perfect for my wife to return her intercept and get this.

Just an update, my wife has had none of the issues with the Transform that she had with the Intercept and is very pleased with the performance.
