Samsung update??????

Odd....several people in this thread have mentioned that the GPS is much better on their phones after the update:

Epic 4g: DI07 GPS is fast and fixed!! - xda-developers

Yeah...I'm one of them. I know about the placebo affect so I made sure to test a few things yesterday before I applied the update (gave up waiting for it and used the XDA link).

GPS was not functional at all unless use wireless network was turned on yesterday. STR:

1. Turn off use wireless network (settings-Location & Security-Use wireless networks)
2. Reboot phone
3. Start Cardio Trainer
4. GPS lock is never achieved

Today, after I applied the update, it's an almost immediate GPS lock.

1. Turn off use wireless network (settings-Location & Security-Use wireless networks)
Apply update in recovery.
2. Reboot phone
3. Start Cardio Trainer
4. GPS lock is within seconds

So if that's a placebo effect, I'll take it.

Once you understand the main GPS bug affecting every Epic phone, you udnerstnad hwo they can;t say it is fixed. a reset from an update -- or any one off cycle of the phone -- is going to mask the problem because that in itself has and always has removed the cached GSP data. Since the problem is old expired data in the Cache causing lack of fix, they are seeing a false positive on a fix.

I dont think we can confirm that GPS is fixed until what Aero1 said here takes effect. Basically... we won't know for a day or so of testing, seeing as the GPS always works once after a reset (which this update forced).

GPS has always worked on mine. Though now it has more "in use" birds than before(7 of 11 before). Still has 98.4ft bug for reporting. Dead on lock though.

there is XERO changes to anything with the GPS. I have been in constant contact with the device team top support.
Your phones were RESET less than 24 hours ago if you got the reset.

You are are observing a placebo affect.

LOL, It isn't odd, no ones GPS BUG, which every EPIC has has been fixed, you were reset so of course your GPS works today!

Every single serious tester on the emain thread has the same problem. The people who don;t when checking but not reset there phone or by tuning GPS on/of and then on in another location reports failure to fix. Everyone.

Sprint to support has the same bug on their own phones.

which explains in the first few days why everyone was getting good results, then I stopped paying attention to the thread.

Does power cycling flush the cache? If so, at least it's an easy fix temporarily by just power cycling the phone once a day.

If so, that might be why I've never had much of a problem. I keep a spare battery on me at all times because I drain it like a motherfu**er. Swapping out my battery once a day probably fixes a lot of shit for me... but I'm always worried about ruining the back cover.

Same here. I was swapping battery and doing things that restarted my Epic. Now
The past few days GPS works sometimes but often just sits. Still broken with this update. Had hopes but it wouldn't lock 10 hours after update

I got the update today at 1:15 p.m. I don't see any major changes that stand out. And the GPS works just the same as it did before the update, which was a major improvement over my Palm Pre. Yesterday, I checked outside my front door and it said I was across the street. No biggie. Did it again after the update today (and the reset of course) and it has me in the exact same place. Some people may find this annoying, but when you use the Palm Pre for a year and a half and it puts you a mile away...everytime...this thing is a godsend. Oh, and it shows I'm using 8 of 10 satellites, same as yesterday.

As for the MediaHub thing, waste of time for most. But I can see folks spending lots of money just to get their crappy shows on the phone. I prefer ripping them from my DVR and just copy the things over to my phone for those times when I'm bored to tears and need some "on-the-fly" entertainment.

Yup.... due to the prices, I see myself rarely ever using this. If I'm stranded somewhere with nothing to do and I need to watch something.... I may use the rent feature... but I will never purchase anything because just being able to play the movies on my phone is such a waste.

My update came through on it's own at about 3:15 am central this morning... after the reset, it sat there hung on 'searching for updades' for about an hour before I got brave enough to hit cancel. (Never had a smartphone of any kind before, so I'm a little unsure about stuff, and at that time of day, sadly, I couldn't find anyone to ask.) After that, I poked around a bit on stuff, and opened up Samsung's program monitor widget; and found a new, generic-looking (white with the little green android bot,) app labeled com.sdgtl.stamhubb, which I googled, and what little results I could find on it indicated it was probably the media hub under a different name. I will note that on the regular apps page, the media hub shows up like a regular app, with the name 'media hub.' Has anyone else experienced this? Also, since the update, my home screens won't work in portrait, and I could have sworn they did before....

Actually, mine never did unless the slider was open. It would be nice if it did. Perhaps someone can tell us if there is a setting or something for that. There are times I'm watching a movie or something and go back to the home page and gotta reposition. Not a big thing, but would be handy.

Huh, that could be what I was thinking of, then. Still not totally sure of everything yet. And it does work with the keyboard out. Yay?

odd. I haven't updated or reset my phone once. I have the 4g bug, but that's about it from a hardware perspective. My gps has been spot on, and I've just been using it for timing sake. Though I know I've been on parallel roads where it still thinks I'm on the one next to it, but it snaps back once I make another turn. My garmin was no better there. And I've had mine since day one. Maybe I stopped reading the thread after a week. I was just going off of all the results of the footprints people were posting along with others saying their gps is just fine including a couple of the moderators. And using my evo somewhat side by side in the car, they both have the small circle around them while navigating. Never got the bigger circle from either of them. So I couldn't say one was better than the other.

and if you're transferring from computer to computer just to get media loaded on your epic, did you ever consider just using one of these?

Your workaround is trying to ice skate uphill when something like this is so much easier and quicker. Mine sits on my keychain in case I want to download anything from someone else's computer.

Nope its easier using my network...I just plug in the phone via usb to my surveillance computer and drag and drop...anyways i charge my phone of that computer also.Since it stays on 24/7......

However I should not even have to this  WTF ..

I hate to say it again but the 3g cap is bugging the **** out of me.

Today i dint even use the phone. Just so i wont get pissed off:D Lucky me i had my iphone4..

Just a quick update. I don't know if anyone else experienced this, but the update seriously increased my battery life. I'm now at 12 hours, including surfing, two phone calls, several txt messages, and browsing the app market, and I have 60% left...and this is on the 1200 battery, not the stock 1500. Usually, it would go dead just sitting on my nightstand overnight. Might be coincidence, maybe my battery just suddenly got better, but I'm thinking something they did made a HUGE difference in my battery life.

i got the update earlier today automatically, and it seems to me that my battery life was actually WORSE since then, and my phone just froze up and turned off all radio connections then rebooted itself twice too.

I dont see how that little device would work on an iPhone though :D

anyway, a problem I and a lot of people are having is receiving MMS messages over WiFi. You push the Download button and it fails every time. Turn off WiFi and it'll download right away.

Another little bug is some of the phones function buttons when on a call, like speaker, mute, or end call wont work after the phone comes off the proximity sensor, or theres a huge delay.

Last one for me is call waiting or 3 way calling. lets say im on the phone and a call comes in, i switch over and talk to them, switch back but the other call is still shown up on the bar. the call is hung up but you can still switch back to it and hear dead silence. if you try to hang it up it will hang up both calls. they need to fix it so that you can hang up individual calls, instead of it just dropping all calls

i just saw that com.sdgtl.stamhubb on my phone. size was 0kb
uninstalled it and media hub still works fine so idk what the hell it is.
