to replace his router, switch, and three T1 to phone converter boxes
The phone can be replaced, the kid's life cannot.
This may or may not be the right place to ask this question... but I've already mentioned that I'm going to list my broken phone on eBay with full disclosure, and I was just wondering if anyone had any idea what I should start the bidding at?
OK, so here's the story. Yesterday my wife and I, along with our boys, went to a birthday pool party. The party started out in the house for the first 15 minutes or so while guests were arriving, then after that we headed out into the backyard where the pool was.
As we went into the backyard kids just started jumping in the pool like flies on candy, next thing I know I see who of the kids laughing saying, "You can't swim, what are you doing." I look over and one of the other kids is trying to hold a smaller 3 or 4 year old boy who is going under. I don't know this kid, so I quickly ask, "Can that kid swim?!" And just as I'm saying that, he goes under water to the bottom. Not even thinking, I dive it, grab the kid, and bring him to the decking on the other side of the pool.
Yay!! Until I get out of the phone and remember, uh, my new Incredible!!
Least to say, I think it may be toast. I immediately gave it to my wife who removed the battery, SD card, and put everything in rice. Then after letting it soak for quite some time, I put a hot blow dryer on it until the fog disappeared from the screen. Then finally today, I put it under a desk lamp for a few hours.
Anyway... none of that worked. When I put the battery back in, all I get when I push the power is a single vibration and then nothing else. If I plug the phone in like I'm charging it, it looks like its charging, but nothing (same thing still happens when I push the power button).
I called Verizon, and they're by the book, "You didn't have insurance so you're going to have to buy a new retail $540". Ouch... Any one have thoughts, ideas, remedies?
The HTC Incredible was my graduation present for getting my BS Degree in Computer Science... probably the best present I've ever gotten besides my PS3.
I'm going to send an e-mail to HTC too, just in case.

Darin,
One good deed deserves another!
First things first, I know it is not a new phone, but I hope this makes you feel a little better... please PM me, and we would like to send you a free copy of our app: PhoneFraze PRO (normally $3.99.)
Second, I would give it a few more days before I gave up on it. It is amazing how these things can come back to life. Just recently I went out to someone's house here in Nashville that got flooded last month when the river came up 50 feet to replace his router, switch, and three T1 to phone converter boxes (they were all TOTALLY underwater for more than a day.) I decided to just fire them up despite the fact that they were the color brown from a thick layer of river silt. Sure enough ALL of the boxes fired right up and have been working for a week now. And I have seen many cellphones do the same!
Go to home depot and get a box of Dry Rite (dessicant) and put a layer of it in a large tupperware container with a good tight seal - like one for a cake or fruit salad. Set your phone on a plate in the middle and let it sit in there for several days. It doesn't hurt to put it in the sun where it can get warm, but not TOO hot where it will hurt the phone.
You might be pleasantly surprised! Hope this helps! Check out my sig to learn more about the game. It would be a lot of fun with your family.
Yup... he said I'm at fault for having an electronics device around the pool.

Yeah, I figured I would give the phone one last-ditch effort. Yesterday I purchased some Damp-Rid from the local Hardware Store. I placed the phone into a zip lock and put the damp rid all around it.
Any idea how long I should leave it in there for?

Good deed!
Just saw this thread while skimming for other Droid water incidents. My Droid Inc died after an incident at the pool today... it got splashed pretty good while i was taking a photo of my son in the kiddy pool. I should have known better. Oh well. I am listing it for parts on ebay and now trying to decide if I want to switch to the Droid X. I'd love the hotspot for my WiFi only iPad.
Tell me about it, it's a heart-sinking feeling.
From the stories I've heard, the Incredible is very sensitive to water, and almost unrecoverable if it does get wet.
Just an FYI, there is a rumor on these boards that HTC/Verizon is releasing an OTA update that will give the Incredible WiFi Hotspot and 720p Video Recording... supposed to release soon.
yes I have seen that rumor...I hope it is true....but if it is false I am going to be kicking myself
All I care about is the hotspot feature...not loving the larger size after playing with X in store
I need to decide soon as I can't be without a phone for long...hoping to buy from a source where I can get it overnight or 2 day...even if I have to buy off of ebay...I can't be phoneless for weeks of backorders
Take heed folks..stay away from water lol
I wish I had just brought my old Sony Cybershot to take pics
